Will a 250 fit into fox body?

Actually I weighed my 80 200 I6 Stang.

Total weight was 2866lbs.

1666lbs on fron and 1200 lbs on rear.

That still comes up as a 58%weight on front. I think that has to do with the 200I6 engines center of mass is way forward. The K member's motor mount pads even bolt to the front subframe rails for extra support.

But there is alot of ways to drop weight on a Fox body. JUST DONT TAKE IT OUT OF THE REAR.

BTW please consider those oilpan pics saved for indepth study and research.

Hey MustangSix.

What model fox was that 250 put into? Also, how was the hood clearance and what motor mounts were used?

The 250 never came in any Fox body. Any structural or mechanical engineers will tell you I6's have their centre of gravity further forward than even big blocks if you do some second moment of area calculations. Any way, the best Fox bodies for 250 sixes are the Mustang and Capris. The cowl/firewall/scuttle was 1 inch taller to get a faster sloping hood. Downside is the front section where the oil filler hangs out needs more room...see those photos of Jacks red tri-power, see the reversed valve cover. Not sure about T-birds after 1983, it had a fairly high cowl. It may be a good 250 canditate. Plenty of them had 200/C5 combos.

200 I6 Engine mounts would end up too close together to fit a 250 right in, according to Jacks information on a 250 swap in his formerly 200 cube Stang. However, it shouldn't be much of a brain strain to shift them apart. The 250's had a wider space between the left and right mounts on the block.

The 250 never got the AOD4 auto either, but some late 200's may have, we think! AOD4's were used in the "S" shell Cougar/T-birds from 1983, and the copact Lincolns/LSC's body. Should fit up OK if people are still shoe horning 460/C6's into Fox bodies, eh?

Following weights of engines was subject to some debate late last month. It seams installed and core weights are sort of like gross and net horsepower. All figures are telling the truth, but what specific truth do you want to hear?

That's what the ill-fated 255 V8 and very successful 3.8 V6 were for...light weight replacements for a 250!. Installed mass of the 3.8 liter was 306 pounds, only 5 pounds heavier than the 2.3 Lima OHC. The 255 was 440 pounds from my information. The installed mass of the 250 I6 wasn't much less than the 302, which was 470 pounds.

My 2 cents. Back to you, MustangSix!
