hey as most of you have guessed im a teenager and i work for safeway....so i dont have much of funds so i want to do upgrades one at a time and i was just wondering if the duel vacume advance duraspark 2 will work fine with a holly 1940 carb??

It should, right now my buddy is running his '66 200 with the Autolite 1100 and the vacuum is connected straight to the bung in the intake log under the carb. That should work well for you aslo

Howdy PR66:

To clarify, the DSII came in two basic versions. Both have centrifugal or mechanical advance and vacuum advance. But some came with a single vacuum advance cannister, identified by one vacuum nipple on the end of the cannister, and a dual vacuum advance/retard cannister, identified by two nipples- the second, being between the cannister and the distributor body. Either will work better then your stock '66 vacuum advance only distributor, but the dual vacuum advance/retard system is a little more complex and troublesome. To get it to work as it came from the factory, it requires at least one vacuum switch that allows the system to change from advance to retard, depending on several factors.

Both types of vacuum advance systems were designed to use a ported vacuum source on the carb. I believe the Holley #1940 is a replacement carb, and should have a ported vacuum source located above the venturi.

The big differences between your original ignition system and a DSII are the addition of electronic internals and centrifugal advance.

The DSII ignition system, including the distributor, coil, module and wires, should be a nice upgrade for your engine. Set the initial at about 12 -15 degrees and regap your plugs at about .045" for old, and .050" for new plugs. You will likly notice quicker starting, a smoother idle, better mileage and acceleration and more top end.

Enjoy!

Hi P66,

While David didn't come right out and say it, I will say that you will be better off with the single vac DSII. It will work with your 1940 as long as you hook it to a ported source. A ported source is available on your carb. More importantly, as you go forward one of the first things you will want do is upgrade the carb. The single vac will work with all of the popular alternatives without modification. Keep your options open and go with the single vac.

Enjoy the trip - Steve

is the duel vac better with the holly/webber 5200??

cause thats somthing i will be doing somtime soon

Generally, no...

The problem with dual Vac advance is getting it set up right. It can be a royal pain. It can also be hard to keep it set up right. It would be easier, more simple, and thus better, to go with single vac. advance.
