Won't Start!

OK, I'm lost again. Installed a new Pertronix Ignitor 2 a few weeks ago and everything was great. Finally got the new coil a few days ago and put that in yesterday. Now she won't start. I put the stock replacement coil back in too see if the new one was bad but she still won't start. The ignition and starter will turn but the engine just won't catch. I checked everything from the wires to the rotor in the distributor and everything seems to be fine to my un-trained eye.

I had ordered a Flamethrower 2 coil but they sent a Flamethrower 3. The literature said it is compatable with the Ignitor 2 so I figured I was just getting a better coil for less $. Could the Flamethrower 3 been too much for the Ignitor 2 and I just fried the whole system? ANY ideas are appreciated!

8) check to make sure you are getting voltage to the coil, and through the coil. its also possible that the ignitor unit has fried.

I would not think you would fry anything that quickly just due to a 'better' coil, perhaps over time but not instantly. Coils take time to kill but the electronic modules are easy to kill. Just a random spark from working on one live can do it.

Well, I sent an email to Pertronix and explained my situation. They are going to replace both my ignitor 2 and the coil! Now I might have to put the points back in while I'm waiting for the new stuff to arive.

I'd go with electronic ignition just not the pertronix.
Stock DSII with a better coil or
DSII dizzy+HEI module+hot coil really works well.
The best part is the most likely failure prone parts are OEM replacement part available are most any parts store.

I myself have a duraspark but I got to admit that its pretty cool that they are replacing his unit. Try that with any of the 'factory' units.... bet parts store guy points to the sign that reads 'no returns or exchanges on electrical items'. Pertronix has the best rep of all the conversions out there and has been at it the longest. I have thought about using them on some things I cant get an electronic dizzy for. At the moment I am trying a home brew setup that still triggers off the points. Cost is $20-60 depending on where you get the parts and if you think you need it you can flip a switch to get back to the points. So far its working good but just got it done a few weeks ago and have not logged much time on it yet.
