xf crossflow into '28 model A Hot Rod

Hey guys,
I donated my xf to power my dads hotrod which will be a pickup. The mounts are currently for a winsor but im sure he can work that out.

He was telling me he has to move the firewall back as the engine is too long compared to the more compact v8.

Has anyone seen a crossflow in a model 'a' chassis?

With the rear end im trying to found out the length of a cortina diff drum to drum as this might be right instead of the expense of cutting down a tank fairlane diff or borg warner v8 diff he has. Also what ratios do they come in?



If you have any ideas or helpful info please tell me.

cortina diff is 1478mm
But id go for a centura diff there about the same width but have the same stud as ford 5 stud

You can get just about any ratio you want from 2.77 to 4.11 you can also fit the lsd hemispheres from the zj-zl fairlanes

Thats great becuase he has a zj/k fairline v8 2.92 lsd diff.




What single rail gearbox would have the best ratios for it with a 280dur cam 2.92 diff and a little over 1000kgs?

If you can get the 351 single rail, it will be best. 2.46:1 1st.

The early XE EFI 4.1 4-speed has the same ratios as the 302C gearboxes from 1972 to 1982. It has a 3.06:1 first.

Don't use the stock 4.1 carby or later XF EFI 4-speed. The 3.47:1 1st gear is too low and savage for a 1 tonne Tee.


The 4.1 is about 17 inches tall from the back of the crank centre line to the top of the rocker cover, and has a head width of about 7" wide, so it will need hammer time to fit it.

Ok 351 single rail has a part no of 0503-008 it is located on a tag below the shifter it was fitted behind the XC 351 XD 351 and all XE engine options

XB 351 single rail part no is 0503-003

Any suggestions on cooling the crossflow behind the model A grill with price in mind?

Would it at all be possible to chop down a x series v8 raditor end tank to fit within the grill or would this be to small and a custom tripple flow?

Forget the so-called cross flow radiators. Get an FJ40 radiator off an old Landcruiser 4.2, and have it resized. Size for size, its the best around.
