Hello! I'll introduce meself! I'm Allison, I have a '55 F-100. I've put a 223 out of a 56 in 'er.

I've had never ending carb problems with it!

Right now, It's surging. At first it was pukin' gas out the idler jet, rather then spraying...it was just pukin' gas out randomly. I took it apart cleaned it up...and now it seems to be sprayin' consistantly but it's still surging...not has intensely, but it's still doin' it. If I open up the choke all the way, it really struggles to idle, then will die after a few minutes. I have NO idea what is goin' on...any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

First, what type of carburetor do you have? Is it the stock "glass bowl" or a later carb? Have you adjusted the idle mixture? Do you have the correct main jet in the carb?

Second, make sure everything else in your motor is correct. Distributor problems (out of time, points not gapped correctly) can cause the symptoms you describe. Another likely problem is the valve adustment. If the valves are adjusted too tight (not enought lash, or gap between the rocker arm and valve) your engine will run poorly.

Please post pictures! Fred.

okay, it's a reman holley...i believe the 1904?
I've adjusted everything on the carb...to make sure it was all correct...the timing is good n' on...i never thought of the lash though...mmm...
I'll have to check that...

Thank you...

might also come from a vac leak around the base of the carb or in the line that runs to the vac advace on the dizzy... shoot some WD-40, PR-3, or if your gutsy and aint got anything else, ether around the base of the carb, around the intake where it bolts to the head, and around the vac line to the dizzy.... if it revs up, start fixin vac leaks.

let us know how you make out.

I already did the vacuum leak check...nothing... I'm thinkin' somethin' is just really retarded about the carb... or I'm just really lost!

something REAL stupid came up a while ago talkin to another 1904 guy i know... he said make sure you check the base gasket holes for alignment and to be sure they are even THERE... go figure. i dont know how it'd effect your trouble, but ya never know

hmm... I'll make sure I check that again... one of those things I'd look past in my hectic "what's goin' on!" mode...
