Hey everyone

Was wondering if anyone could help me out.I just replaced my exhaust manifold on my 65 mustang with a 170.I had some trouble getting the old one out but finally did.I have put the new one in but I am having trouble with the bolt on the bottom near the firewall.I cannot seem to get in there to tighten it.Any suggestions? Also,I tightened the bolts that hold the exhaust pipe to the manifold as tight as I can but still has some exhaust leak there.Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

That one is called the "restricted access" bolt. I buy junk wrenches at garage sales, thrift stores, swap meets, wherever I can get them, take the torch to them and bend them into special shapes. I've got a full drawer of "specials". You can also pop the starter off. Undo three bolts to tighten one...

I've done this same thing with my 200 about 5 times.

If you take a really small socket wrench, im not sure of the size, but i think one of the smallest you can buy, and find the correct size socket for that size, it works. It is hard to get it on the bolt in the beginning depending on how far you have the bolt sticking out, but it works in the end. Also, If i remember correctly, tighten from the inside out.

For the leak between the manifold and pipe, Make sure you got the soft donut, those seal better. Also, I use some exhaust leak sealer to stick the donut to the manifold, and fill in the small spaces in between the pipe and donut. Then torque it up before it dries. Then start the engine, drive it around, and torque it up again. I'm not saying this is the perfect best way, but it worked for me.
