1909 carburetor with a dura spark one distributor

If it fits use it , being able to use the Vac Adv is secondary to a Good Mechanical Curve , if you don't have a Ported source , Just cap it off , its 1-3 mpg Tops

Can a 1909 carburetor be used with a d.s.1 distributor?

Yep X2. The SCV port can be worked around. The red tang plastic controll box for the early Duraspork 1 was made from 1974 till 1976. Its actually the best and strongest system around if the small cap doesn't short out...you have to keep the leads and cap in good shape.

Ford binned the Duraspark 1 for the safer Durasprk 2 and 3's in blue, yellow or green colored tang controll boxes. People used to hold on to the spark leads, and the DS1 can kill a person with its more dangerous delivery spike compared to the later ones, but the early ones make more power and a fatter spark. Cross fire is more of an issue for the v8 versions of it, an I6 DS1 is a great bit of kit.

As for Holley carbs, yet again there were good an bad flowing versions. The early Holley 1909 series was rated at 170 CFM but just 125/150cfm for the small 1909.
1962 1909 was 170 CFM or so.

The replacements weren't always SCV either, as there were a lot of variants, Make sure you've got one with the bigger venturi area, as Ford varied the base hole from 1.3 to 1.59 and the venturis from about 1.00 to up to 1.29 or 1.35" with other variants of it. Make sure you check that the base studs and sizeds of the throttle match, and that the venturi is not the smallest one, or you'll only get 84 to 90 hp tops.
