Hi, I'm new here but I have already learned alot from this site and I want to thank everyone. I just finished a duraspark conversion and was very impressed with the results as far as fuel mileage is concerned.

I would like to know if anyone could show me where online to find adjustments and specs for the 1940 holley, and where I can order a rebuild kit. I have found some on scoutparts.com but I'm not sure they will work for my application.

Thanks for the help.

Pedal, I did some calling around just now to see, the best I could find out of Napa, Orielly's, and Autozone was a complete carb at AZ for $100, sounds like the guy was reading the same thing I was on the Autozone site too "Trunk ajar F-1; available either as a Motorcraft model 1100 or Holley model 1940". It might be nice to get an 1100 but from searching posts here I have gathered that the reman carbs at the zone aren't a great choice. Napa did have separate parts but I don't know if that would help me with the specs and honestly I'm not sure what all i would need piece by piece. I also looked on partsamerica.com, we don't have Advance or Checker in Dallas.

I hate to be a bother but if anyone has a P/N or a link would the mind posting it?

Thanks.

I got my rebuild kit from NAPA but don't remember the part number; it's a generic "1940" kit. It was 15-20 bucks if I remember correctly.

I called another NAPA and talked to someone who may have been a little more knowlegable (or helpful anyways). He asked for a list number off of the carb, but all I could do was give him the numbers stamped into it. He tried to cross those numbers over to the parts he has for this car but could not find anything.

I searched those numbers on this forum and found a post from SouthernAdrenaline / Solidsteelstang saying he had the exact same numbers on his carb, and the members ID'd it as being a Holley 1946, which would change things up for me a little. I searched for holley 1946's on ebay and it looks alot different, no vacuum valve on the side on mine and also no elec choke.

I have a duraspark dist now so I don't need the SCV, so if possible I would still like to use this carb. Ill switch to the autolite 1100 if i have to but im trying to spend as little as possible on this motor at the moment.

There is no reason you can't get a rebuild kit for it. The only reason you can't find it is because the guys you are dealing with don't know crap.

If you really run out of luck, call the NAPA that I have had good luck with...

Ask for Greg. Guy knows his carbs. Tell him you know me.

And if he's able to help ya out - figure out a way to buy it from him :)

Howdy Back All:

DDGTJ- You didn't say what year, and trans you're working with? That would help.

FYI the Holley 1940 is not an original carb, but became the service replacement when Autolite went out of the carb business. It was jury rigged to fit a bunch of applications. It was not specific to anyone engine. It is a fairly simple carb to work on, but not as easy as and 1100. Apples to apples it will not give the driveabiliy and economy of an 1100 either. Since it is a "Service Replacement" from FoMoCo you might try your Ford Parts Dept. for a rebuild kit.

IF the accelerator pump is still working adequately you might get by with a good cleaning- til you're ready for an upgrade to match your new ignition system. A spray can of cleaner and a can for fuel system cleaner might do the trick.

I'm sure you are aware of the mismatch of a SCV carb to the later ignition system.

The Holley 1946 was the Last factory carb to the end of our inline sixes. It is a way complicated carb and way different from a 1940. It is not a very likely bolt-on or upgrade.

Adios, David

2-5743 is the NAPA part number according to Greg. I'll have to go to the NAPA here to order it, so I'll let you guys know if that is correct. I did call one Ford dealer nearby, they said call NAPA so I took that as a sign. The car is a 65 Mustang, auto trans (C4?), I've had it for about a month and I know the engine was recently rebuilt. I would like to get an 1100 for this thing but I know what kind of stuff autozone sells, and the pony carb is a little pricey. I will surf ebay and see if I come across something but for now this will have to do. Thanks everyone for your help!
