Nice car! Welcome to the Forum; you are one of the only (maybe the first?) from Italy.

For your spark plugs - it is very unlikely that there will be any damage. If you are concerned, maybe fit one only, then crank the engine a few times. Remove the plug and look for any sign of your piston hitting the electrode. If it is all OK, fit the complete set, but check the electrode gaps before installing.

There is also possibility it may perform better than the old plug, as the ignition will occur slightly further into the combustion chamber. Let us know how your car responds with the new plugs.

Regards, Adam.

p.s. A little piece of your country, in Australia - you probably see many, but they are "exotic" here:

hi Adam, tks for your answer!!

in effect my other problem is to be sure that the degree of the rf14yc is the same of the 870. if i mount a hottest one i can make an ugly hole into the pistons..

i hope somebody have my engine can suggest me which spark plug he use..

ps. in effect this alfa is very usual here..

I owned 3 1960 223's at one time. That spark plug # looks correct if I remember correctly. However I have not had those cars since 1978, so I am not 100% sure. Another # that comes to mind is RF11Y but again I am not remembering which one is correct. I am hoping someone with better knowledge/certainty comes along with a more concrete answer regarding the numbers.

In the mean time Addo's advice is very sound.

Both the Champion UF11Y and UF14Y spark plugs will work in the old ford Y-block engines and the 223 I-block engine. One is a "hot" plug and one is a "cold" plug. I dont remember which is which.

autolite 46 is the other offer of rockauto, rf14yc should be equivalent.

many thanks.
