When i drive up a steep grade it either makes it going like 35- 40 mph, or smoke starts coming up from beneath my car. I already changed the water pump, thermostat, and fixed my radiater of the small crack where the coolant use to come out of the top of radiator. Cuz of this, i pretty much just drive my car around town and rarely take it back home for the 2 hr drive. Any ideas on what i can do to fix this problem? :?:

Hi,
Do you have any idea were the smoke is coming from? Does your temp gauge indicate overheating?

The Ford Model T was famous for needing to go up steep hills in REVERSE, maybe this Ford product has similar genetics? Just kidding  Need a little more info. What color is the smoke? Does it make good power on flat ground? How is your fuel mileage? Are the plugs fouling? If we can get some discussion going maybe we can figure this one out.

Sounds like a tired motor to me.. But could be as simple as not getting enouff gas or timming. but it smokes so I'm more apped to think tired motor.

is it possible that you've got an oil leak, and when you go up a hill steep enough the oil spills out and burns itself on the exhaust?

just a thought
me, i'd do a compression check to see what shape the cylinders were in

I would check your oil pan, make sure all bolts are tight..not monster cranking tight but a good 10-14 pounds each sarting from the back. If that slows the smoke then you need a new gasket. As far as power loss..maybe tired engine. As stated above, do a compression check on all cylinders and post them here.

Sounds like a tired engine to me as well. Another good test would be to go down a hill at fairly high RPM with the car in gear and your foot off the gas, when you get to the bottom of the hill, floor the gas pedal and look in your rear view mirror. If you see that same cloud of smoke your engine is worn out.
