All Small Six 1982 200 in a 1960 falcon

This relates to all small sixes
Whelp I’m back again this time I spotted a 1982 200 from a Granada and am wondering if there would be any issues putting it in my 1960 falcon. Currently the falcon still has the 144 and ford-o-matic two speed and I guess the main thing I’m wondering is if I need a different transmission in order to get the swap done. I do plan on swapping the transmission at some point but I haven’t decided on what kind yet. Any info is appreciated I’m a young gun so especially when it comes to tuning distributors and the like this is all French to me.

Upon doing a little more research I may have answered my own question and it appears the late 200 have a unique bell housing pattern so no ford-o-matic and major adjustments would have to be made to the trans tunnel in order to mount a different transmission to it.

I think I'm right in saying the 1982 200 would have the Duraspark II distributor and ignition box. You will want all of that. I'm not sure what kind of emission bogged down carb and exhaust they would have hobbled the 200 with in 1982 but you might was well take all of that too and someone on the site can help you sort it out.

My thoughts would be to use the stock 200 with the duraspark II and put a 2V (dual barrel) carb on it with a header. I'm more than certain there will be lots of recommendations from knowledgeable people on the site.

EDIT: What transmission came with it in 1982? I wonder if it's not worthwhile to do a full transplant? I'm not sure that the transmission tunnel is too narrow but it would be worth looking into.

As stated is the trans from the Granada available? Also driveline, rear diff, trans mount, gas pedal/cable, radiator, air cleaner, accessories and anything else that looks useful. If not get the 200 and any thing listed here anyway and start looking for the appropriated C4 trans.
The Granada came with a C4 or C5/ so just get it yes a full transplant and the other items mentioned above. All that stuff will make your Falcon a little perkier.
The significant assumption I am making is that the C4 will fit in your 60 Falcon tunnel. Someone on here knows.

It appears the motor is fully dressed including the air cleaner and I can see the ds2 box in the picture. I would have to ask if they have anything else.

EDIT: I just went on their profile and they have the c5 listed separately.

Yes, as stated above get everything you can with that engine. It's not going to be an easy drop-in installation, and you never know what you might need. That '82 200 is likely to be a low-mount starter block. There is opportunity and potential there, but it might take some work to realize it. I'll have to go through my handbook a bit to see what it has to say about it and confirm what I remember. But the low mount starter can cause issues with downpipe and header fitment. However, a V8 bellhousing can be modified to fit that block, which gives you a lot more transmission options. Fitment of some of them into the early Falcon tunnel may require cutting and bashing and patching though. But just about anything is better than the 2-speed. There's probably a bellhousing that would let you mount a C4. The head will be a large log, which is good, but might be a hex log, which isn't the best for the mill and fill carb adapter plates. Still good for a 2 into 1 adapter, see otto's thread. Don't forget to mill the head for compression too, which can open another can of valve train/pushrod length worms. Adjustable rocker arms will fix that, shimming the shaft stands will fudge it for less money. Good luck.

I am not an expert on C5 or C4 but if it was me I would get it just to save having to find another trans. From what I have read the C5 has a lock up torque converter which is a good idea but some problems were associated with them. Do some research on line and others on here may comment.
Are these items close to you? If so take a look.

It really is tempting I was kind of hoping for a simple swap as I am pretty inexperienced but this would vastly improve the driving experience. He has the motor posted for $650 and the transmission for $500 do you think that’s fair beings they appear to be complete. I’m not really sure what these should be worth I know I’ve seen them for less but they were older and less complete. They are a little over a hour away.

Unless you can actually test drive them then hard to determine the condition and dollar value. Make an offer based on the risk level you are willing to accept and make a list of the parts you want so both parties know what is involved. Are these items still in the vehicle? Post some pics on here you might get some comments from others.

I think getting the motor and matching transmission will make the swap much easier. I have my concerns that the 1960 2-speed will bolt directly to the 1982 Engine. Get the drive shaft too if it's available. It'll have a slip yoke for the transmission and with any luck it'll just need u-joints to connect to the Falcon differential or you can use it with the Falcon drive shaft.

IMG_1994.jpegIMG_1995.jpegHe said he might have the driveshaft and radiator.

IMG_1993.jpegI did also just spot this probably 10 minutes from me says it’s from a 78 mustang II casting # RF-D42R-7222-AA. I do kinda prefer a manual.

Okay, so I looked in my handbook for more issues. If it is a low mount starter block, the starter will likely rub on the steering center link. There's a work-around, but it's more work. And the oil pan is likely to have the sump in a different place, so it and the oil pump pickup tube will need to be changed. Then you'll have to move the dipstick in the block as well. All do-able, but a regular high-mount starter 200 would swap much easier.

I don't know where you live. Local economies vary around the country. But around here, a dirty and rusty non-running engine and tranny laying on a garage floor wouldn't sell for over a thousand dollars. Half that maybe. A couple years ago I bought a rebuildable '69 250 and a nice '82 low-mount starter 200, complete from pan to carb but no belted accessories for $100. I didn't really want or need them or have a way to get the blocks home, but they were about to be trashed. So I stripped off the heads and distributors and a few other useful parts for my $100 and the guy scrapped the blocks. I asked around here if anyone wanted them for free but it was too far to drive.

That is good info. Based on what you found out the OP would probably be happier with a earlier 200.

You may want to search some of the Mustang forums for a 200/C4. It has been popular for some to buy an early Mustang and remove the six to replace with a v8. Same for Maverick forums.

If you have ruled out this 1982 drivetrain publish the contact info as someone else might have a use for it.

It’s a facebook marketplace ad in Palmer Mass. The sellers Facebook username is Charley Emerick as stated he has what appears to be a complete 200 and c5 transmission, accessories, ds2 ignition, and said he might have the driveshaft and radiator from a 1982 Granada.

Depending on what engine you end up with, I may have some parts that you could use.
I have a bell housing that you can mount up a T5 it however, it is a low amount starter, so I’m not sure if that would be a problem that someone mentioned. Also have flywheel and clutch assembly, headers, and a two barrel Webber and adapter.
Not many people in my neighborhood doing what we do with sixes. What part of Southern New Hampshire are you in? We could be close. I’m right across the border.
