2 fans better than 1?

I am sure this has been covered before----and I have thought about it numerous times. Before this last rebuild, I had tried a couple of things to keep my engine cool in the heat of an Oklahoma August and had little success, especially while running the AC or when in heavy traffic. So, I bought a 3 core from dallas mustangs and thought it and a new thermostat would solve my problem---but it did little to help.. So I thought maybe an electric fan on the outside of the radiator and the original fan on the inside would keep it cooler....but of course I will be losing some of the hp benefit with the engine fan still running, right/wrong---not worth it??

Do you have a fan shroud? If not, they help a LOT.

An electric fan is supposed to be better than an engine fan, especially an unshrouded one - and a puller electric fan behind the radiator is supposed to be better than a pusher in front, but I don't see why.

If you've got the room behind the rad (with the engine fan removed), I'd do that - but if not, then put one in front and see what happens with and without the engine fan.

You gotta watch out for those flex fans, they're known to have fan shrouds break off and go flying through the hood.

On my setup I have a 3-row radiator, a stock style fan and a pusher electric fan in front of my radiator that only comes on when I turn my A\C on. Also a 180 thermostat. It keeps things pretty cool, even out here in AZ.

Thanks for the replies, yea, I have heard bad stuff about high reving engines and the flex fans---probably will not go that route. No factory shroud but I had a fabricated one that helped a bit---enough to know it does help. Looks like josh1966 has the answer. Josh--I guess you just connected the fan to the AC switch with a fuse for load?

I would like to do a thermostat, so it will come on if I am idling in traffic. I thought the thermostat would come with the fan? No, probably not---where would I pick it up and how hard would that be.
