200 cam selection. Yes, I know, its been asked but...

I searched and couldn't find what I needed. '66 200 mated to a C4 and hopefully a T5 eventually. HW 5200 carb, DSII ignition, headers and a CR in the 9.0 + range. Which cam is best for this setup? I want a little more power, nothing ridiculous as this will be a daily driver. Something with some cojones but won't send my MPG into the teens. What RPM range should I be looking for and how many degrees, etc, etc, etc? I've been looking at Isky cams as they stock about 5 or 6 different ones for this motor. Anyone have any experience with this brand? Good quality or avoid at all costs? Open to suggestions here. Thanks!

Jim

8) isky does make a good cam, as does comp cams. however in my opinion the best cams for the small six are from clay smith as they design cams for the application rather than pull a lobe off the shelf like others tend to do. you want a dual pattern cam that works in the 1000-5000 rpm range for the street. you can fudge that a bit, push it about 500 rpm one way or the other for a bit more power in a different rpm range, but dont go too far afield. in your case i would also recommend the 112 lobe center cam to trick the engine into thinking it has more compression than it really does. this will also bump the low speed torque a bit.

^i have the 264/274 112* clay smith cam. i love it, its kinda lopey, especially at idle. mike reccommended the 112 LC for automatic, and 110 for a manual. i told him i was planning a t5 swap in the future and he said 110 LC would be "ok" with an auto, but i dont know how long it will be before i can get a t5, so i bought the 112.

How much does the Clay Smith run and where is the best place to get it? Direct from their shop or does someone else stock it with a better price? What does anyone else think about this? 112 or 110?

I also recommend the 264 cam from www.classicinlines.com These cams are made specifically for our motors for classicinlines, so I doubt you could get it anywhere else. Plus if you're going to hang around this great forum, why not support it as well!

I'm using the Clay Smith 264-12 cam from classicinlines. I also used the timing chain set from classicinlines. I've been happy with it so far.
