What would cause the 3rd and 4th exhaust port to be burned and a small crack, Would this render the mani unuasable ? what can be done about it from devloping any further cracks at this location?

Pics?

In order to stop a crack, you have to grind away the crack to get to fresh metal (uncracked) or the crack might continue. Depends on location, so be more specific.

If it is just the divider piece and no other part of the manifold is damaged, I would grind away the cracked area.

Thats it just the divider piece, here i go with the dremel tool, YEE HAW

Actually Linc, if you think about it he is refering to the choke tube casting. Mine is cracked, also but not leaking...yet. If not using a choke, braze those two holes closed, both top and bottom and walla...no leaks.

If its cracked all the way throu then when you grind it you well cause a big leak.. as the inside hole of this pieace is open on both ends on the outside of the manifold... You may have to sleve it or plug the outside ends and find another way to run your choke.. (if you use it for the choke). Maybe just grind a V in the crack and fill it with exhaust grade epoxy.

Both are good ideas......

you could drill/tap each end of the choke tube and plug with bolts....

or just drive a piece of solid steel rod through.

Hmmm....mine doesn't open on both ends as far as I can tell. It has a fitting for the choke tube on the bottom but that's it...and that has long since rusted shut. I don't need a choke anyways, so I've adjusted it so the choke is always open.

Thats like mine 1 tube in the bottom and I have brazed it closed.
no need for a choke in southern oregon ither, God's country !
Thx to all for the great input !

Well, where my car is has temperature similar to "Biblical" country... Don't know if it would qualify as "God's Country" though. :D :D
