Are all the man trans flywheels the same through out all the years? I've heard of doing a 289 zero balanced fly wheel so you can run a 10 inch clutch, but is there any other option for fly wheels when the power starts to get higher. I looked in some of the past threads and couldn't find much. I did find something about a 2.3L disk is slightly larger... How hard would it be to take a flexplate and weld a metal disk for a standard clutch to bolt to? Money, time, and a place to do it?

i already been into that , a alu flywheel fitting a 200 with for use from a new model clucht plate 10"" but did get not much response.there are n ot cheap ,and not for use for a daily driver,

same design like this 1 .

i did water jet cut the alu with all the hole,s in it , then cnc milled itin the wright shape and insert with bolts and tread in the alu a magaan plate for the clutch and the outer ring with tread from steel 52 !

i did want to use it for my turbo setup ,got al the draws and how to mil it, and wat clutch to use ! with the wright distance and messering !!

That's kind of the idea I had in mind. If you made an insert out of steel would that make it a more streetable design? It would have alittle bit more mass to it. Thanks.

You've got two choices for stock flywheels:
Small pattern/Pre-66 is a stepped design with an 8.5" clutch disk. Ford pressure plates are rapidly becoming unobtainium for these flywheels, but you can have the the rim/face of the flywheel faced down .15" and use a 1969 - 1992 Alfa Romeo 2.0 liter spider 215mm pressure plate. Shop around for prices as they go for anywhere from $75 to over $200 for the exact same part at differnt places.
"Large" pattern/66 and later is a flat flywheel for a 9" disk. Pressure plates are still common for this one.

The 80+ big bells could use something SBF sized, but no manual flywheel was made for them.

I can't remember, do the flex plates have the turque converter bulit into them? I might have seen that design behind a V6 in a late 80 fairmont. thanks

Harrie....why did you say the larger clutch was not for the daily driver?

Also did you try this out and what were the results?

jammer , not the clutch for a daily driver is a problem , but the alu fly wheel !!

it spoon to quik and to fast , verry nice maybe for a turbo setup ore a street race car, the clutch is no problem .

i wil try to soundrecording my engine when running and spooning up , you can realy hear the difference ! verry fast response on the pedal and verry fast return to idle .

i think i did get over my head to make the alu wheel as light as possible , it is much to light now , next 1 wil be a flat alu wheel with no cutting hole,s in it !

How much will you charge for one of these fly wheels once you get it figured out. I'll be interested in one in about one year.

What did you use a the flex plate. Is it a 200 flex plate?

flex plate ? i did cut a ring with the same patroon as a orginal flexplate , from steel 52 , and bolt it to the alu flywheel with the same hole thats is the clutch plate bolt on . 1 design .

this flywheel did cost me almost 250 € [ only the production , not to mention al the time i did spend to it ] because it was the first production and only 1 . for next time making them multiple and without the holes there wil be MUCH cheaper .

Oh I C... So you bulit your own flywheel and insert. Do you own your own metal fab shop, machine shop? Is it possible to bolt a steel insert to a 200 flex plate? Might end up lighter than the standerd flywheel.

Also a PP from a Mercedes Benz 2.3L from the 190 would work. That's what I'm running right now. Works great!

Harrie, that's a trick looking flywheel you got there, let us know how it goes.!!!! :D

nice idee . got some more info about it ? ore pic ? i now the alfa pp did fit but didnt now a mercedes also fit ?
wat diameter? same bolt pattern ?
i could make a flywheel with differnds bolt paterns for setting up differends pp ,

btw i did sound record , you can realy hear that is is spooning up verry fast up and down to idle ! but how to post a sound file ? mostely i upload pic from photobucket , how can i post a sound file ?

Harrie, it was my mechanics idea. Basically all you have to do is about the same you do with the Alfa presure plate, mill the flywheel rim a couple of thousands so the disc will seat properly, the bolt pattern is the same as the stock one.
