200 or 250, who can tell?

What size is this engine? Looks like a flat log but has a high mount starter.

The casting # on the engine is, D8BE-6015. Use it for your car or parts.

that should be a '78, right?
if so, going from the big bell how-to, it should be a 250

yes?

I think its a 200

- There are no high starter 250's.

- The earliest 250 would have a D9 casting number

- It's a 200.

Howdy All:

I'm in agreement that it is likely a 200. It just doesn't seem bulgy enough at the pan line for a 250. And what I can see of the water pump seems to be 200 style. The dead giveaway is the high mount starter location.

The D8XX casting # indicates that it is likely a good head, can't really tell if it's a flat-top log or not.

The 1st 250s were casting #C9XX. I'm sure that's what Jack meant.

The valve cover has a little wire slipin holder type deal that came stock on my fairmont and its a 200... anyone ever seen one a 250? and its a pain when you wanna sand it down cuz the sander wont fit in der
