Im new to this forum and have a few questions hopefully someone can help me with a few answers. OK first off i have a 67 stang with a 200 engine and a c4 tranny. a few months ago i was driving and my radiator out of no where expanded i guess and made an opening near the top of the radiator. I used a hammer to hit the open area back together and it hasnt leaked since. First off should i use one of those weld kits to weld the seam back together just in case or should it be ok for a while the way i did it? Second off i have to replace a few gaskets and tighten up many bolts in my car my question is that i want to paint everything while im at it and was wondering if anyone can tell me what colors i need for the engine as well as brackets and such. My last question is what should i do to my motor to make it more reliable as a daily driver without taking it to get machined. Thanks for taking the time to read my long post and hopefully someone can help me with the answers.

Hello

It doesn't sound like you are looking for an 'overhaul' exactly. For starters, what is wrong with the car that keeps it from being a daily driver? I have the same car/motor with a 3spd auto. Mine didn't run when I got it and now I drive 25 miles a day with solid faith in my car. First for me was the necessity of exhaust-clifford's dual out header. Then came the #2150 autolite 2bbl carb. After that, all I needed was suspension and now it is very reliable. You really need to just fix what is wrong. and fix it right. Your car will tell you when it needs something.

Stangman,
I would sugest that you either remove the radiator or drive your stang to your local radiator shop and have it welded. it's a cheep fix and the shop can presure test the radiator for you.
(edit) as far as your engine compartment restoration, I use this page as a guide: http://www.tffn.net/1960.html It's for 60-65 Falcons, but a 67 Stang is much the same under the hood.

ok well im gonna be driving my mustang around 30-40 miles per day and the problem im having is that the engines idle is very high and when i have it in park its extremly loud and causes the car to shake. I try to adjust the idle on the carb and it turns off if i try to lower its idle speed. i need to replace gaskets since the car leaks a bit of oil and it leaks water from the water pump gasket. Also does anyone know where i can get or how i can make a repro air filter for better air flow.

Sounds like you may have a vacum leak somewhere. Check all the lines, t's etc. K&N does make a filter for the 200 so you could look into that.

I too suspect a vacuum leak/s. If you haven't already done it, a full electrical tune-up is also in order (plugs, wires, points, condenser, cap, rotor, set dwell, timing). Use a vacuum guage before and after any repairs to check for progress. Change the fuel filter. And definitely get the radiator fixed. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Stangman,
A vacuum leek is a definite possibility, to check for a vacuum leek spray carb cleaner around vacuum lines and the carb base and listen for a reduction in RPMs. Without knowing which carb you have it's hard to be specific, but I would suggest that you set all the adjustment screws (3 I believe) to factory specs and go from there. You will need a shop manual, if you don't already have one. Trouble shooting the ignition system is another good idea.

alright thanks everyone for the great tips and information. im gonna check into all of that also if anyone has the K@N part number for the filter i would appreciate there a bunch since im not too good with the measurement thing. One last thing do you think i should pull the motor out and clean it up or leave it in there and do what i can from the engine bay. Just a thought since i f i had to i could get a engine hoist and do all of that.
