223 performance build horsepower estimate?

Ok, my '64 Ford Custom has a great running 223 with no blowby, clean of sludge inside and consistent compression figures. I believe it likely was rebuilt within the past few years.. I'm considering a mild buildup just to see how this little mill will do. I'm not expecting a real tire scorcher. My plans include a 2100 1.12 Autolite 2bbl. atop a Stovebolt Engine Co. Adaptor (or a homebuilt intake), a performance reground cam cam by either John Mummert or Daytona Cams, Barker high lift rockers, a homebrewed header and the 300 Duraspark dizzy conversion.. I'd like to get about 175 hp at 4500 RPMs., about the same figure as a moderately built Flathead V8. Would this combo do it? Does anybody have suggestions for anything I might not be thinking of? Also, what would be good net lift and duration figures for the cam? I want to keep this a budget build without machine work as a 300 will likely be swapped in eventually.

Or am I totally out to lunch, insane, and should just blow this idea off for the 300 now?

Iknow that I'm asking a lot, but you guys really know Ford sixes.

I'd look at murdering a pair of stock intakes to direct mount two small Autolites, and would put each on a water-heated plate. The water will give you a nicely regulated carb temperature.

You said no machine work; I took this to mean no block decking, valve resizing etc. For cam grinds - if you could see how the ports are (got a spare head?) then intuitive decisions could be made about the flow. Personally, I'd favour longer duration with gentler ramps over a really snappy grind. You'd need to balance that against static compression to see where the efficiency was lost.

Offenhauser, Fenton, Edelbrock, etc. make 4v, 2v, Duce-Paks & Tri-Paks for the 223 I-6 & can be found on e-Bay, Hedman, the last time I looked, still had a Header listed for the 223 I-6.
Go for a B&B, Minimal P&P, w/ Oversize Valves & Stiffer Springs.

That would look the cleanest, I must admit.
 
dont forget about clifford.they got a 4bbl intkae for the 223.
 
I'd go with a 264 duration .450" lift 110 lobe center 220 @ .050" & maybe should go with larger valves so it can breath, deck the block .030 & head .010- this way you won't need high ratio rockers. :lol:
 
Will the 223 and 262 take a .030 deck and still have enough deck materal? Will they take a .040 deck and still have enough deck strength? Also why only .010 for the head?
 
There is plenty of material on block to deck .030, but not enough for .040, so you go .010 on head to reach a combined total of .040 to raise compression ratio to close to 10 to 1 . From what I remember. I am currently building this 223ci combination :P

Called Hedman and they do not carry Header anymore, but boy do I wish they still did :evil:
