if you built a 240 , then a 300 and used the exact same parts on both which one would make more power, or would they be the same but just at a different rpm
 
Because the internals are different you can never really have exactly the same parts. If you did have the same internals you would either have two 240s or 2 300s. With everything as close to the same as possible I would sure think the 300 would have the edge since it has 60 cubes more to work with. The power bands of the motors should be different. The 240 would see its maximum at a higher RPM.

It just depend's.Daily driver,light car or truck, the 240 hand's down.Heavy towing or work truck the 300. I once replaced a 250 in a 66 chevy with a fresh built 292.It was stronger,slower,and used more gas.Thought I needed the extra power,but the truck with the 250 was nimble and quick,and about a 100 more miles per tank.Wintertime driveing in Alaska with the 292,I straped two jerry cans of gas in the bed just to be safe.
