250 swap motor mount question

Ok here is the deal with my swap. I planning to swap my 200ci and 3spd in my 65 mustang to a 250 with a t5. I already have a t5 and an 8" rear (but the rear is not ready yet and wont be for a while). Anyways I have a line on a running 250 with carb and everything for $250 (haha a dollar a ci haha). I was wondering what I should do for mounting the engine in the mustang. I know the motor mounts are not exactly correct but apparently should work. Should I use 65 motor mounts or should I find something else. And if I can find maverick 250 motormounts should I use those even though they require drilling of new holes?

Thank you!

on a maverick the 170, 200 and 250 all sat on the same motor mounts so i dont see why putting a 250 into a mustang would require switching mounts.

Using the stock mounts will result in hood clearance problems with the 250 in you Mustang. Also, using 250 mounts may cause clearance issues with the center link. Many have solved this by reversing the center link and bolting it from the bottom. Personally, I would stay with the 200 and build it up. You will not have any of the the above issues to deal with.

I haven't done the swap in a Mustang yet, but in our Falcon we were able to use the stock '63 motor mounts. I didn't have to modifiy anything to get the motor to fit under the hood.
Now the cooling fan and tranny mount were a different story. But even those were easy to overcome.

8) ihave yet to do this swap as well, into a 64 falcon, but i have a set of 69 mustang chassis mounts for the 250 which i will need to drill one hole i think.

Ok then I wont even worry about the motor mounts just maybe replacing the old ones with new ones. Its just that i saw a maverick with a crusty 250 in a junk yard and wondered if i should take the motor mounts. Anyways I will prbably be getting the running 250 some time this weekend.

Thanks for the input!

a 250 is wider and taller and using 65-68 mounts will give you hood clearance problems. use 69 mustang mounts and 69 insulators (very hard to find and nos ones are $250) you will also need the 69 250 trans mount it sits back farther. This is not just a bolt in when using you use 65-68 mounts as many of you seem to believe. I have a rebuilt engine in my garage that i got VERY Cheap because some one thought thay could just bolt it in their 65-66 Gary

What kind of problems would occur with a 250 in a 65 mountingwise? Would I still be able to use my original type mounts (if I disregard hood clearance problems) And if the original type mounts work will it cause problems for the transmission mount? I am now kinda worried about the swap because I was hoping for a relatively easy changeover with no need for fabricating of motor mounts, but it seems less likely now.

Thanks for the info and the heads up.

One reason I chose to fabricate the mounts for the 67 was the driveshaft. I felt that if I started moving the trans mount around I would have to shorten the driveshaft by about 2". I can cut and weld flat steel but the driveshaft was out of the question.

By the way Gary, I mocked up the 69 250 frame mount alonside the 67 200 frame mount. The centerline difference is 2.00" offset to the rear.

The 79 Granada 3 point motor insulator mount has a bolt exactly 2" set back. If I replace that bolt with a thru bolt and cut off the downturn and stock insulator frame mount bolt I believe they will work. I may be able to set this up this weekend.
