250 trouble

@ Woodbutcher, good advice, will do if it turns out to be the eccentric

@ echo1955, ill test this tomorrow my friend. i definitely will be buying a vacuum gauge tomorrow to help in the task, i fix and drive old cars and the guage is a necessity when working on them, y i dont have one yet is the question

unfortunately i couldn't remove the threaded tube off my maverick
so i could swap on my spare 250's carb mount. so i will have to do without this line.

Side Note:
If you spray some “Mystery Oil” on the bolts and nuts, let it sit over night then recoat the next day they should come out with out breaking.
The claims Mystery Oil has on their containers actually work..
Also known as Marvel Mystery Oil. It beats any 2 penetrating oil’s combined. I don’t know why they do not make that claim…

I rebuilt a 1947 Ford 4dr and it must have had a kagellion nuts, bolts and screws.
I lost only 2 screws and they were #6 flatheads.. stuff really works..

 i hear you, im investing in an impact set here soon, some of the bolts on my 4 door mav im restoring are stubborn as can be, and im getting tired of stripping alot of them.

i put some pb blaster on the thread before i quit, but ill have to find a breaker bar to fit the 1" socket, tight space where it was located.

---it may not fix the problem but i figure i should run the tube as it had to serve some purpose

Impact tools will save bolts a brake over bar will loose..
Huge difference..

I never heard of pb blaster but that only means I never heard of it..
I would spend the extra bucks on Marvel.. more than worth the expense in my view..

undid fuel line and turned engine over to check the fuel pump. i got 2 spoonfuls in 30 seconds of cranking

This is not enough Gas. The test wants to see 1/2 Quart.

An engine under no load will need far less gas to rev up because it is doing little to no work. An engine trying to pull a 3,000 pound car down the road while increasing past 1/2 throttle is doing a lot more work and will need a lot more gas.

Find out why your not getting enough gas.

I took the tank off my 72 Mav and found the tank full of debri, chunkies 3/8 to 1/2 inch on a side.
Car would run a while then die from fuel starvation.
Took the tank to a radiator shop to be cleaned and sealed, car runs fine now with full fuel flow.

@ 69.5 mav

it turned out i was out of gas during that test :rolflmao: died going down the road after the test and tank was bone dry

i was too busy today to check the pump but will test it and try another fuel pump tomorrow

-been a long week,
as far as the 250 goes I reran the vacuums and tested the fuel pump, everything was fine.

i rebuilt another carter yf through the week, dialed it in perfect and ran a new carburetor base plate as well.
had trouble getting the carb tuned in the 20 degree weather :rolflmao: and trying to keep it running :bang:

i setup the idle screw all the way to get the engine to run. turned the idle mixture screw out a turn and it ran smooth.
backthe the idle screw back down.

-car idles better, takes gas better and the 1/2 throttle problem was fixed.

so the problem was the base plate or carburetor but I'm glad it runs good now

thanks for the suggestions guys
