All Small Six 250 width vs 200 width

This relates to all small sixes
Need to know exactly what and where you need measured.
I think in the past people on this site have used 200 mounts but need modifications. I want to say I read somewhere that someone used 390 mounts as well

from a previous post on installing 250 in a '61 (Comet). :
,
> The 250 is @ an 1-1/2 " taller and 1-1/2 " wider and due to a different WP is @ 2'' longer than the other engines but can theoretically use any year head. BUT to put a 250 in an early car can have many issues. I've done it and here are a few:

> Motor mounts need fabbing because engine is 3/4" wider at bosses on each side. I simply re-drilled the front early '61 mounts 3/4" 'wider' on each side. Also 'pinned' the rubber mount with grade 8's. for limited torque movement. I did fabricate the rear engine/tranny mount for a T5.

> No room for a mechanical WP fan, engine too long.

> Oil pan too deep hits steering center link

> Previously mentioned Firewall need major "forming"

> Starter hits center link

> If standard, the clutch Z-Bar won't work because engine is too wide.

> Most carb setups won't clear hood - too tall.

> Engine Belly-Bar Xmember interferes with Oil pan.

> Most trannys for the 250 will need tunnel "forming" as well.

> Cooling inlet and outlet in bad positions for stock rad or hoses

> Other less obvious differences in electrical, sensor and controls.

I'm sure some of my info is wrong but I'm sure most is right - from experience.

The biggest problem I'm having is the engine doesn't sit back far enough to let the new C4 cross member contact the transmission mount. The mount is 2 inches forward the cross member . This motor and transmission was in the car running when I bought the car. Transmission crossmember is new . The old one (same style C4 T5 ) .

So, you have a Falcon that came to you with a 250 and transmission and it was driveable, everything fit? Now you’ve changed only the transmission X-member and it doesn’t fit?

Have you changed anything else? If you have a list would be handy to have so we can check it off as either suspect or not a problem. If it fit before the X-member then the X-member is the problem but if you also changed your motor mounts at the same time then it gets more complicated.

You kept the parts you changed right? Comparing what came out with what went in is the next step in the process.

.. what year car and what's the clearance issue ? , 250/C4 was in the car, now doesn't fit after ___ ?. few pics would help ...

the early '61/250 Comet and my '63/170 Falcon needed the Firewall 'formed' with a BFH to clear the larger Toploader Bellhouse (W/T5 adapter) and C4 mount adapted to T5 without lowering the engine/tranny . Both cars needed body center subframe DS arch cut out for T5 shifter tower to maintain same Eng/tranny and Pinion angle on car. C4/T5 mounts were re-enforced to added Frame Connectors
