Its been awhile and I need to get the old 66 a bit more road worthy. First stop is to ditch the old 1 barrel carb that just never wants to run right. Ran better after the rebuild but still never ran right. So I want to do a 2 barrel conversion. Found a Autolite 2100 locally for cheap and I have a knee mill sitting in the garage (plus the skills to make the adaptor plate and just about anything else I might need). How hard can this be? The machine work should be cake. The tricky bits are in all of the details to get this thing to work right. I am 99% sure I will need to get a new distributor and ignition. What would be the thoughts on doing this on the cheaper side:
Mill log head
Make adaptor plate
install 2bbl carb
get DSII distributor
Get GM HEI Module
Get Ford TFI coil
Get new wires
do a bunch of other misc stuff to get carb linkages gtg.
From what I have read this should be relatively easy to do the ignition and distributor set up. Milling the log on the old 200 should be fairly strait forward. Making the adaptor should be strait forward as well. Might need a couple spacers to get the carb up to the right height to clear the Valve cover. Then get or make some sort of snorkle device and I should be good to go other than some tuning on the carb. Does this sound right? I think I can pull all this off for under $250 in parts and materials (excluding the snorkle and piping). I just don't want to buy a bunch of parts only to find that its not going to work. Thoughts?
