2bbl help, and distributor ID please.

Hi,

The first step towards correcting my 2bbl setup would be to identify my distributor. I have a 1968 200ci engine. I still need to get a 1968 shop manual. What would be the correct name for this distributor? I have electronic ignition and a H/W 2bbl carb from Stovebolt. There are no vacuum lines going to the carburetor. The wire with the green stripe is going to the three pronged "thing" that screws into the water pump. The other one is now disconnected. What aftermarket distributor would work well with this carburetor? Also, it was suggested that I get spiral wound plug wires. Is anyone else running these wires? What brand do you have?

I can spin the tires when standing still, but there is still a flat spot when cruising, when I open up the secondary. After a few seconds of bogging, it takes off a little better, but now how it used to be.

Howdy Justin:

The photo shows a '68 vintage distributor that has centrifugal advance built in, but with a very lazy rate of advance. The distributor also has a vacuum advance/retard mechanism. Vacuum not only advances the ignition, but in sone circumstances it causes the ignition to retard. It is a rather complicated system and works fairly well when all parts are right and tight. The rate and amount of vacuum advance is adjustible by removeing the nut on the end and adding or subtracting the number of washers/spacers in side.

You didn't say what your initial advance setting is on this combination? And jetting on the H/W is touchy.

For kicks, you might try to disconnect the vacuum retard function by removing the hose closest to the distributor. Then hook the outer hose to a ported vacuum source in the carb.

Keep us posted.

Adios, David
