well i put on my 2v carb this morning, autolite 2100. I got the carb off of ebay, the guy said it had been rebuild a year or two ago then never used. The carb is spotless and looks to be in great shape.

Once i had it installed and everything hooked up i went to start the car, it fired up right away after cranking a few time to get fuel to the carb. as soon as it started the engine spun up like i had my foot buried in the throttle, the engine seemed like it was just getting faster so i shut it down and tried again, same thing. I got my brother and had him make sure the throttle was not somhow opening up when i started it and the same thing happened with him holding the throttle closed. no amount of adjusting the idle speed screws did anything to change it. any ideas?

thanks

I would open up the carb and see if there is a problem with the float and needle valve (stuck or missing). Since the carb was never run, something could be missing and they never knew it- or they rebuilt it, ran it, had the same problem, got discouraged and put it on the shelf.

i would look down the carb throat with a flashlight and make sure the throttle plates are closing all the way. Unless you have a coresponding vac leak a flooding float usually will provide too rich a mixture to get much rpm. Also check the choke and choke/hi speed idle linkage for proper adjustment. To idle down; the throttle plates need to close off air flow and the choke plate needs to open fully for full air flow. The hi idle screw for the choke is located on the choke side below the choke assembly.

thanks, i will openit up and check the float. also see if i can get the choke adjusted so it is opened a little bit, the way it is now it is all the way closed with the engine cold, i was having trouble getting it adjusted before  I want to put a manual choke on it though

is there anyting else that would cause that much engine speed? i am pretty sure the throttle was closed, so how was it getting that much gas? throught the idle circuit?

hmm, well i opened up the carb and the only thing i saw was that the fuel linlet needle was missing the little washer that goes on it and the clip that attatches it to the float. other than that it looked ok to me, i adjusted the float a little bit because it was set a little bit high.

Thanks again

wow old thread... yeah I have it running great. the problem I finnaly figured out was one of the bolts that were attatching the adapter to the manifold was bottoming out and there was a big vaccum leak there and I guess the power valve was opening up and dumping gas in and so I couldn't get the idle down

latest problem is the fuel pump just took a crap... then the replacement was defective  no more in stock but the new one is on the way

Great!
I love happy endings!
I think Kenny (Redfalken) also had a bolt related vacuum leak with a carb adapter.
Glad you got the car issued settled and good luck with the fuel pump.
