OK, what is it for a good set of gears? I have been offered stacks of 3.08 sets but not 3.23 (that's what I get for fraternising with "Brand H" people).

Need the later ones with larger size mounting bolts to the hemisphere, and a verified matched set. Anyone? Melbourne crew?

Thanks, Adam.

I've got no whole diffs. A wrecker mate has offered me the H****n gearsets but no complete units. As I don't have a spreader (and it would cost about $400 to have one made down here) I am trying to just score the gears.

What year is your diff in the XA? They changed in the '80s or early '90s and the ring gear mount bolts got bigger. It means that to run an old set of gears on my newish centre, I need to make a set of steel bushes that sleeve down the holes. Too much work if I can just buy a newer set of teeth!

All this hassle is why Steve Irwin should endorse the Centura diff swap for XK-XP. It's one of the biggest crocs around. Next time I will fit 4W discs AND maybe even ABS...

Not sure if this will help you.... but EVERY EB2 4 speed auto falcon came out with 3.27 gear sets. THese diffs would be starting to fill the wreckers.
OR XF 5speed 3.3 falcons had 3.23's...
I wouldnt pay over 100... there simply not worth any more than that. You can pick up 3.7's/ 3.89's for that..

Are the EB-IIs a regular BTR diff? Out of curiosity, how much wider than an XC diff are they?

Everything costs more in Sydney.

Thanks, Adam.

would any of the E series wagon diffs go in a XA or only an EB one? i had a EB sedan 4lt and the diff dint like the simple mods to the motor so why the wagon diff so different besides being leaf sprung?

Any eseries from Eb2-El is a 4 pinion 28 spline diff... EA-EB1 are 25 spline 2 pinion and are weak...

ANd yes any E series from EA-EL will fit.. in my boses 378 clevo powered coupe he is running an Ef wagon diff with 3.45 lsd.. and no problems yet

Thanks to xdee for the 3.23 gears! Good price, posted promptly, well-packed and CLEAN.

You can thank James Beam for the packaging.
Addo, they may be clean, but they still have the smell don't they?

btw, gears were out of an EF sedan.

It smells like your parts cleaner runs on aftershave!

Compared to the s**tfight of today's work; it was so nice to have something straightforward happen the way it's planned.

The gaps are closing. Housing fixed. Axles ready. New gears arrived. New brakes waiting. Original XY 12 slots to go on. Springs installed, reset and rebushed. Hope I sound excited... What was it TC Steve said about the hard parts?

I want to do a little pictorial on diff assembly/setting for those who haven't seen it in progress. This should happen in about two-three weeks.

GOTCHA Addo. XY's never came out with 12 slots.
Early XW GT's had the riveted Canadiac wheels. And XA and XB's had the Aussie wheels.

.

Ah well, XA then. They're Ford stamped. Remember "Project Early Bird" with the Mick Webb motor from Street Rodding magazine, circa 1983? The wheels off that.

Hey Addo, can you PM me with any info you might have about the MW clevo's, particurlarly if they were 4 bolt, and type and mods on heads/manifolds etc.
Or you can post it here 'cept its a six forum

.

Actually, I don't have any info. :( The motor he built for that XK was a 302W, and it seemed to have lasted pretty well. The car was gutted and sold for parts by a mate, two or three years ago.

I don't know about now, but back then Webb seemed to have that sixth sense for putting stuff together. It's not so different to the way some people play a musical implement with more ability; they can feel and compute stuff most of us never notice, to produce a superior final product.

Plus, when all this was hip, I was only a kid (10-13, say) and cars of interest were Triumph Stags, HD Premiers, LS Monaros and XP hardtops... Couldn't even afford Street Rodding with my pocketmoney, on a consistent basis.

Silly me, I thought that you actually had the mag, not just the wheels
And I hadn't even thought about him building Windsors, he's got such a long standing rep as a Cleveland maestro.
