3 Carbs on a 250 Maverick

Looks like I will be buying a 3 x 1 set up for my Maverick 250. Has anyone else put this set up on a Maverick? :?:

I'm looking forward to this so I can get some power. The car runs 20. sec et's in the 1/4 mile now. I hold slow ET on the Maverick site.

Figure the head ported, milled and valves unshrouded, a cam and the carbs should be good for about 20-30 HP.

What do you guys think? :?:

I am building a 250 with the offy set up. During new years weekend i will give a report of how its going. 280 cam, split headers, full roller, electrict water pump, electrict fan, electrict fuel pump,Mallory distributer,MSD-6A ignition, Ported and polished head and block is decked .020. The carbs i am using are webers.
Installing this in my 63 futura. Fiberglass hood and bumper. Will add more fiberglass as i go along.

Wow, you are really building that thing. Please keep me informed.

I'm doing a 200 swap into a '63 Ranchero this week as well (I Hope). We have taken .040 off the head and block. Ported, unshrouded the valves, port divider, 262 Isky cam and a .030 over bore. I have a header, but was told not to fire the engine with a new coated header as it will burn off the coating when an engine is fresh. I also have a holley/weber 5200 carb.

I also have a T5 adapted, but for now I will stick with the 2.77 3 spd. When i do the header I may change the trans as well.

Happy Holidays

Hotrodbob,
How is your 2.77 transmission holding up?
I'm tossing around the idea of putting in an AOD, an old 2.77 or a T5 depending on #1-money and #2 whats available when I have the time to tinker.
Have an couple of AODs to rebuild and an 2.77 with necessary hardware.
Getting a Granada 250 + transmission(?) and drive train.
Guess this transmission is another alternative too.
But my original question deals with the durability of the 2.77.
Just street driving use.
How well is or has it held up?
Thanks.

My 2.77 was noisy and clunky shifting 4 years ago when I bought the Ranchero. I learned years ago that in some cases synthetic gear lube could help. The first 50 feet after I changed the lube and the trans was quite and shifted great! An other reason I'm keeping the 2.77 for a while at least is cost. I'd have to shorten the drive shaft to add the T5. The engine has been on the engine stand for 2 years now and I just want it done. The secondary reason is my 16 year old will start driving it and the 2.77 & 8 1/2" clutch will be the weak link in the drive train. If he gets to heavy footed the trans/clutch will not take it.

The trans has been fine for me over the past 4 years, but I don't drive this car to aggressively.

Hotrodbob,
Thanks.
I was wanting to try a manual but wasn't sure about the 2.77's durability.
I won't be taking it to the drag strip so think it will do for my puttering around.
I put my strain on the manuals almost fifty years ago.
I'm a lot easier on things now!
Thanks again.
Oh, and good luck with your endeavor also.

Thanks. With the rain here in So.Cal. today and predicted for this week, I don't think I will be doing much. We have some flooding and lots of rain.

In the 60's I had a Falcon with a hot 6 and the 2.77 did fine. Now the rear end was another story. After the 4th set of spider gear shatering I just welded them solid with about 20 arc welder sticks in high school metal shop. Never blew a rear end again, but bot was that thing squirly in the rain. I'd also get looks from the guys in the parking lot as the inside tire would cherp. It was like driving with a spool rear end.
