53 215 rear freeze plug location/picture.

Hello everyone,
Does anyone know if there is a rear expansion/freeze plug or have pictures of the rear of the engine? Leaking water out the back hoping blocks not cracked. Trying to pull bell housing with out pulling engine.

Thanks,
Casey

Yes, there should be two expansion plugs on the rear of your engine. You can see edge of the top one in your photos, there is another diagonally below towards the driver's side. The third one is the cam plug which has no coolant behind it, only the camshaft and oil.

I know I'm a bit late to the party but it, probably, would have been easier to pull the engine. From where you are in the photos if you remove the bottom cover, you can take out the clutch and flywheel. I don't think there is a block plate so once the flywheel is out, you should be able to see those plugs to check for leaks. If you do need to replace them, it will be necessary to remove the bellhousing from the block. Disconnect the slave cylinder or the clutch linkage, put a jack under the rear of the engine (be careful, it's too easy to bend the oil pan), unbolt the motor mounts from the crossmember, and unbolt the bellhousing from the engine. Almost forgot, somewhere in there you'll need to remove the starter too.

Thank you!
Got it out had support block remove bell housing it was shot. Had to manhandle it to get it out. Off to find replacement. Thanks again for the reply.

According to the illustration I looked at in the manual, there should be another behind the flywheel. If you haven't already, you might want to change that too. It will save you from pulling it apart a second time.
