Everyone,
We took the car out this past weekend to the PSCA (Pacific Street Car Assoc.) race in Phoenix. My turbo '86 Mustang blew the tranny again, so we drove back down to Tucson and swapped cars so my wife Kelly could race in my place.
She didn't set any speed records but the car performed flawlessly! Very consistant. The only complaint is that the car is slow to react. It needs some rear suspension work.
The best time she got was a 14.43@93.3mph. Not to bad for the first time out. I had the throttle cable set at about 75%. Timing at 8* initial, total timing was around 27*@3000rpm.
We'll do some suspension work and take it out again here soon. I'll keep everyone posted on the results.
Sorry for not notifying anyone that we were taking the Falcon out. A couple of you showed interest in coming out to watch it go. I'll get you next time.
Later,
Will

I'll be very surprised if you can't shave at least three seconds off that with some tweaking. Do you visit the FullBoost site?

Slade,
She said she saw about 7lbs. of boost.
We need to do some more testing with timing and boost levels. With only 7lbs. I could've advanced the timing a bit more and probably picked up a tenth or two.
This car is easily a 13 second player. Our goal is still to get it into the 12's.
BTW....this car's previous best was 20.4@69mph. This is with a totally stock 170 except for headers and cam. So we've already cut 6 sec. off the ET!
Also with the 250/C4 and all of the turbo plumping the car now weighs in at 2667 lbs. without driver. It needs to go on a diet!

is it a stock C4 ? what tire are ya running do you have slapper bars in the back ? oh yea one more do you have a pic of the car at the strip ?

Slade,
Notice I didn't tell you the TOTAL weight of the car! Hahahaha!

76 Mav,
Yes the C4 is bone stock. Under boost, Kelly found that shifting it by lifting her right foot momentarily worked best. As soon as she saw the shift light she would lift just a little bit to create a little vacuum. This would shift the tranny when she wanted it to shift. The shift light was set at 5200rpm. Don't worry a manual valve body is already in the garage and will be installed here shortly!
We currently have slapper bars on there and I don't like them. I like the Comp. Engineering bars so we might end up with those. We also need a rear sway bar.
We've got a cool pic we purchased at the strip that a commercial vendor took. It's an 11x17 pic. I'll see if the dude has a website or something!
The rear tires are BFG Drag Radials 235/60-15s. It's the biggest tire we could fit with out mini-tubbing. We still had to roll the lips of course. So far we've experienced no tire spin. Also remember these tires are now practically bald due to my Knott's Berry Farm car show burnout! So they're basically slicks!

Will, 14.39 WOW !!!!!
So what kind of impressions do you get from people when they find out it's a six cylinder car.....oh I love those!!!!

Alex

Alex,
Everybody can't believe there's a six in it. Although the car still sounds kinda like a six, it definately goes like an an eight! The best part is that at the strip our friend in his '92 Mustang GT was only doing 14.33s! He's got full slicks and a transbraked C4. So we were right behind him. Hehehe!
Little more tuning and suspension work and we'll easily be in the mid 13s!

Will, I was cruising through the pics of the race and found a pic at the very last page. The name of the photo place is Impressions of Motorsports and look at the pics for the PSCA AZnationals 4-25-04,I believe its on page 14.

Nice times, I definatly would like to drop my 3.8L V6 out of my 96' thunderbird in to a falcon for drag racing, My 3800# V6 thunderbird turns mid 13's @ 100mph running 10psi boost from a vortech. In a 2600# chassis she would be in the low 12's. I really want to build a Turbo 300-6 Falcon though for my drag car, my 96' t-bird is my daily driver.

now that you don`t like that turbo 250 I`ll take it off you`r hands for you

Will, what does your '69 run? Just curious for a comparison.

14.43 is dang good for getting the car out the first time.

I built the C-4 in my 62 as a full manual shift, although I do have the vacuum hooked up to lower the main line presssure. The lower pressure will use up less hp so there is more hp to push the car down the track.

Whittey,
Our '69 Sportroof's best ET to date is a 14.52@97mph. The 351w in this car has ported '69 heads, the biggest camshaft I could go with using a stock converter, Edelbrock intake and 600cfm carb. The rear gear is 3.50:1 9" Auburn locker with BFG drag radials. Basically it's a very good street car.
And now the 6cyl. Falcon is faster!
