Motor is back in the car but now the shop is informing me that the installing the weber makes it hit the valve cover. In all my research I haven't seen this issue come up before. This is the generic adapter I am using http://www.webercarbsdirect.com/100_550_p/100.550.htm. With the heater plate and this adapter the setup is to tall, if we remove the heater plate they are saying it angles the carb 30 degrees and won't clear the valve cover.

Looking for some insight on the subject and already appreciate the help I've received as I have fumbled my way through this thing.

Pics or it didn't happen?

No seriously, what is hitting? Is it the linkage? Is it the body of the carb? Is it the choke?

If you live anywhere that it gets cold and has moisture, you should not remove the water heated spacer plate. Otherwise you will get carb icing.

I have installed a 32/36 Weber using two different adapters, one from Stovebolt Engine Company (which looks exactly like yours, but almost half the cost)
Adapter 1 BBL to 2 BBL Fits Carter / Weber

And I once made my own adapter out of a piece of 1" billet aluminum.
Apparently I started making a how-to article and never finished it..

Both were somewhat close/snug to the valve cover, but neither hit it.

I'm trying to get the shop to send pics. Hopefully when they do I will post them. Like I said I've never seen anyone mention this problem before. Maybe the adapter is missed made and leaning in.

... is it possible that your 32/36 interference is the fuel inlet?. If the interference is small, a few extra carb gaskets as riser might work.

My later D7DE head uses only a PCV Vac port adapter plate, a H/W 5200 version of the 32/36 with a generic 2Bbl adapter (kudos' Tom Langdon), the air cleaner is tricky but no interference from the carb with the VC.

Mostly drive 3 seasons, but no problem with out heated runner (or a choke). Runs great for @ 10 years with smooth idle and nice kick' when secondary opens'

have fun

Check out Classicinlines.com tech section - Weber carb swap. This is a common issue and they carry the correct spacer(s) needed. Hope this helps

some one here took the stock adapter plate, bolted it to the new one, and drilled two new holes using the stock plate as a guide so they could eliminate the stock plate completely and bolt the new one down using the stock adapter holes. sorry i dont have a picture of this though.

Picked up a proper adapter from Classic inlines. Now should I delete the carb warmer? I live in Seattle, hardly ever freezes and the car spends it cold season in a insulated garage.

Thanks!

I got the Clifford Performance adapter for Weber 2bbl and have no clearance issues with the motor and valve cover.
