66 bronco carb

Hi,
I have a 66 bronco 170 w/ an autolite 1100. I have two questions.

1. What makes the 66 carb different from the later 170 carbs?

2. Where can I get a rebuild kit or a rebuilt 66 carb?

thanks

Some later carbs (with Ca. smog 66 smog and up) don't have the SCV for the LOD type distrib these are an 1101. Around 68 was last use of the 1101 Autolites too. Check base on throdle side they are sometimes code is stamped there Try NAPA for kits.

And welcome to The Forum! Yes, it is that good.

1st off your '66 170 Autoltie 1100 is rated @ 150 cfm.

THe differences in Autolite 1100s from 1967 and earlier to 1968 & '69 are the loss of a Spark Control Valve (SCV) that links the carb vacuum signal to the Load-O-Matic (LoM) distributor. '68 and later engines have a distributor that utilizes both vacuum and centrifugal advance. The vacuum signal is a ported vacuum source from the carb. The other difference is that all 1100s got a cfm of 150. For the 200 engine that is a downsize from 185 cfm previously. For 170 engines this is not an issue because that has always been the 170 size.

Calif Emissions engines got this carb/distributor change in the '66 & '67 models.

So for you, the difference is the SCV on '67 and earlier 1100s. No SCV on '68 & '69. There is an informative stickie at the top of this topic on SCV and how it works. Basically it gives a load sensitive advance signal to the LoM distributor.

Again welcome. Enjoy.

Thank you for the quick responses.

I have been reading this forum since I got my first truck (83 4.9l Bronco).
In the past I answered all my questions by searching and reading but I didn't know where to start with the 66.
I will read up on the Load-O-Matic and the SCV.

thanks again,
George

CZLN6,

If I read your post right the 68 and newer 1100s for the 200 engine are the same CFM as the 1100s for the 170.
But the pre 68 1100s for the 200 engine are 185 CFM and they also have the SCV.

If that is correct is that a good upgrade to make on my 170?
Also what vehicle specific carb would I be looking for?

thanks again

Yup! It's a direct bolt-on. Any '64 - '67 1100 from a 200 engine will give you an increase. the exact differences are 170 - 156 cfm. 200- 185 cfm. That's a 44 increase in CFM. You will notice. Enjoy.

Is there an adapter to put an 1100 with a 1-11/16 throttle bore on a truck that has an 1100 with 1-7/16 bore?

Howdy:

GWK- I'm not aware of an 1100 with a 1 11/16" throttle bore diameter. Do you mean an 1101? If so, I'm not aware of an adapter. what I did is flare out the inside top of the 1100 adapter- the spacer between the carb and the manifold. by beveling the top allowed the butterfly valve to clear. I hope that's what you meant.
