67 cylinder head question

First question for the forum - go easy. Every other question answered by reading past post. Thanks for sharing all the knowledge.

Recently bought a 1967 cylinder head to replace a 1968 cylinder head with many problems. When I put on the 1967 cylinder head there are additional bolt holes on either side of the cylinder bolts. The bolt holes are only on the carburetor or passenger side of cylinder head.
I have included a couple of pictures I uploaded to Photobucket. If they are not helpful let me know.
Thanks,
Jon

His head has part number C7DE-6090-A
My best guess is that you got some sort of smog head? And then I'd guess those are ports for an AIR manifold. Any idea of that head's history?

Seller returned my e-mail stating that the holes are for smog equipment. I ordered the Cylinder Head Exhaust Air Supply Plug from Mustangs Unlimited.
Any idea what effect this may have on performance? This is only a stop gap measurment until the aluminum head comes out and the money comes in to buy it.
Thanks for all the replys.

Jon, looks like a california head with exhaust ports drilled & tapped for air injection, also known as a smog pump.

Plug the holes & proceed with your project. William

I'm sure it works the same for intakes but on old smog exhaust manifolds (chebby in my case) we bought brass plugs from the parts store that were the right size/thread and wrapped them with teflon and screwed them into place, nothing really special about the plugs.
