79 granada duraspark new on 66 mustang

ok a while back i changed my mustang over to the duraspark system from a donor 79 granada......i'm thinking about getting a new distributor now.....just another duraspark from the auto parts store....but anyway, i seem to have a choice between dual vaccum or single is there much of a difference or is dual something totally different

The dual diaphram vacuum advance distributor is strickly for emisions so go with the single vacuum advance distributor.

When you get the distributor you had better check the centrifigul advance & vacuum advance to match your engine combinations. William

what do you mean by checking the advances to meet my combinations

An engine with a stock compression ratio & camshaft will require a different specifications than a modified engine with higher compression & a different than stock camshaft.

Check this website so you can get your or their distributor to what you need.

There cars were not computerized, so you need a tuner with many years of experience to get you the right combination.

ah, well i have a stock compression, and all stock components minus the duraspark II......I just figured since i need to the the car back to daily driver status, i may need a new distr. etc.......
so with a stock eng....does it need all this extra reconfiguration/curving

Well, it's been fairly much proven by people here measuring what they bought, that a rebuilt may have incorrect advance.

Worth doing, for the sake of better value from what you put in - fuel, time and money.

Just put in the new distributor, set the timing, and drive the thing a bit. No need to jump off the cliff before you detirmine if it gives satisfactory performance. If it starts good, runs good, and gives acceptable mileage, then leave the thing well enough alone. If not, or you just like to tinker, then have fun. Isn't that what it's all about anyway?

yep that's what it's all about w/these things....alright before i go ahead and buy this thing i need to make sure that a 79 granada 250 is the correct distributor.....i think that's the same car that was the donor, it was a few years ago.....i found one for 38 bucks on advanceautoparts.com 79 is the correct year right?
