A couple of questions about Duraspark II

I converted my '74 Maverick to Duraspark II a while back. You can look at that conversion here: http://5hp.hill.cc/maverick/D2

I have since mounted a TFI coil on the shock tower and got rid of the old round coil. The coil is for a 1989 F350 with a EFI 460.

The car has been running fine with the TFI coil and DII setup for the past 9,000 miles with the original resistor wire still going to the TFI coil. My first question is, would it be safe to run a full 12 volts to the TFI coil to get a hotter spark? Will it burn up the stock Duraspark II box, or does the box not care what voltage is going into the positive side of the coil?

Now for my second question:

I bought another '72 Maverick (http://5hp.hill.cc/maverick/72Mav) for $100 last weekend with no engine or transmission. I bought it because it was cheap and you can never have to many Mavericks. I am going to be putting a 250/C4 in it. I want to run Duraspark II ignition on it also. Can I use the points distributor to trip the stock Duraspark II box? My thinking is that I can just ground the black wire to the distributor and then hook the wire comeing from the points to either the orange or purple wire, but I'm not sure which one it would need to go to if it's even possible. I'm just trying to get out of driving 80 miles to the junkyard and then hunting for a useable Duraspark distributor like I did last time with my '74.

I appreciate any help. 8)
