Basic Timing Tips.

I finally got my engine put back together and running. It was great to hear it start, even though it backfired a little. I adjusted the valves a bit, and now its sounding even better.

Now I just need help on the timing. I have an inductive timing light.

I have a general idea on what to do to check/adjust my timing, but if anyone has any tips or better ways to do it, let me know.

Take some silver or white paint, and paint the notch in the balancer/pulley, so it'll show up nice and bright.

Don't loosen the distributor any more than you need to, or it'll move around on its own after you set it.

I think I have my initial timing set at 12 degrees, on a 170 with the goofy loadmaster dizzy and spark control valve carb. I could probably get away with more initial, yymv.

After you set the timing, go back and reset your carb idle mix.
