Air Cleaner for 250 w/ Carter RBS

Hey All,
I have a '66 mustang with a '74 Mav 250 straight six. It has a rebuilt Carter RBS carb and I would like to finish it off with a nice Chrome, open element, air cleaner. Seems I am having hood clearance issues. Any help would be appreciated.

stock options:
1) a drop base a/c is available ("a pretty deep underside that dips in"),
2) some had a a/c mounted off & to the side almost below the top of the valve cover (my solution).

mods:
3) make sompin up like the "cold air" induction systems on newer cars,
4) "slot" the towers (not the motor mounts),
5) use mavrick motor mounts.

Listed in order of appearence and ease.
good luck, bronk hoods R pretty low & create some hassles as well.

Weird lookn' RBS is probably shortest carb available, maybe flip over aftermarket base plate:

upside down base - aftermarket on 5200:

RBS

..."Weird lookn' RBS is probably shortest carb available..."
yep! sez he's got 1 (I thought). even lower than the autolite 1100, no?
Can't ell from yer pic/explanation what U mean "flip"...

Edit: Oh, OK, got it now - turn the a/c's base plate upside down...

Thanks for the leads guys. I was going to buy a chrome air cleaner for a '73 mustang with the 250. I was just going to see if it fits under the hood when it arrived. it looks like it has a pretty deep underside that dips in so ill have to see.
I may have to go the custom cold air intake style if hood clearance remains an issue.

I think it'd still be too hi for mine, Steve. I like the billet top (& the 'air horn flange'), who's is it?

Thanks, Steve. I clicked on the link but on dial-up I better check it from another 'puter.
Took down the info for another day...

6 Shooter?
whadidja get?

BTW: what's the boar diameter on the carb @ base? How high from base of carb to top of air horn?
