Well after almost a month of work my engine is in and running! YEAH!!!! She sounds awesome and idels like a dream. Kinda loud though, my exhaust pipe isnt fitting exactly right, but ill get that to fit tomorrow.

But, I have a problem....

I actaully got it on the street today, drove it around my block a few times. I went to accelrate and there was nothing there. With this engine in nutral, i can rev it up but when its in gear and runnin and I go to accelrate it will only climb very slowly, took my about a min to get up to 35mph.

Any ideas of whats going on? My timing cant be changed much, the dizzy is all the way set against the block and I cant advance it anymore(retarding it a little is fine but if i take it back much she wont run). My idle screw is about 3 1/2 turns out and my fuel mixture scrwe is about 4 turns out. I notcied that when the pedal is pushed all the way down the kick down linkage, the cable that is hooked to the tranny, isnt being pulled. Any ideas?

First guess, I'd say your dizzy is in the wrong "tooth" where it engages the cam. I'd re-time the distributor with the dizzy turned so that the vacuum nozzle points more or less toward the front of the car, so you have enough room to adjust it better.

It sounds like your timing is off, 'way off. The carb's air adjust screw should be about 1.5 to 3 turns out, at the extremes. Normally, about 2 turns is close to correct.

For starters, go for about 8 degrees advance at 600 RPM. This will quickly advance, to about 8-10 degrees at about 1000 RPM, so make sure the engine is running slowly before making this important adjustment. Also, be sure to set this initial advance with the vacuum line disconnected from the dizzy - and plugged, with a pencil or golf tee.
