The motor was pulled today in less than 2 hours , and mounted to the engine stand. couple questions, on this rebuild I am getting ready to do on my 1982 stock 200.
What is the cost of the rebuild to keep it all stock ? " with the exception of the dual roller timing chain "

What is the cost of the rebuild to do the works ?

Are you doing it yourself or having it done? The more you do the less it will cost. If you do the easy stuff and piece work you should be able to do a stock 200 for $600 to $1000. The sky is the limit for the works.

There is going to be some to-ing and fro-ing if you don't want to waste fuel. By that, I mean you will need to get the bores done, resize your rods, then check your deck height as it may well need reducing.

Even if you don't go for a full balance, it's worth weight-matching pistons and rods. I would also spend a good amount of time thoroughly cleaning the oil galleries with the cam bearings out.

For the head, CC'ing it is essential for economy, and the rocker shaft assembly needs a good dismantle, service and clean. It cannot be "honestly" rebuilt without full dismantling.

If you want basically a stock motor, look for a split duration torque-focused cam. This will not make it a firebreather, but the extra aggression of modern traffic benefits from a slight bit extra poke when you need it to keep up in an older car. Any aftermarket cam should be fitted in conjunction with a hardened distributor gear.

Regards, Adam.

I am planning on doing the rebuild myself, I will take the block in and have the cylinders bored. Where is a good source to purchase the rods, pistons and the split duration torque-focused cam ?

The rocker shaft assembly will be dismatled and cleaned by me using this technique http://fordsix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=29111

thx for the advice.

That is for an all stock rebuild with a normal timing chain. The kit comes has all the goodies except for the machining to give it a nice boost. Add two barrel carb, headers and small dual exhaust and you will have a very peppy ride.

OMJ1, Azcoupe would have an equivalent to this cam specified below.

254° (intake), 264° (exhaust). Lift 382 thou intake, 408 thou exhaust. Makes best power between 1000RPM and 3800RPM.

That won't demand extra carburetion, or affect your gear ratios. It will hold the exhaust open a bit more to allow for better purging of exhaust gas. Also, it keeps inlet lift and duration fairly small so that the motor can "inhale" effectively at the working RPM.

It's unlikely to alter the standard exhaust note of your car or enhance the top speed. But it will provide that extra urge away from a dead stop, or with a little weight in the car.

Hope this helps!

Cheers, Adam.
