does anyone know what kind of voltage the coil on my '77 250 produces (stock ds2 setup)? someone at mustangs unlimited told me that my stock coil will produce more voltage than the 40,000 volt ford performance coil i was about to buy. is he daft, or correct?

I doubt that either coil will do 40,000 volts under load, nor is there any need to on most streetable cars. It is really quite difficult to keep that much voltage contained without it jumping out all over the place. They just throw those big numbers around in advertisements to sell coils. What is needed to light the fire is current, not voltage. Trouble is, not many folks understand what a Joule is, but everyone knows that high voltage is dangerous, right? So it's just gotta be better :P
