Anther Supercharger Idea

Ok, what about taking a supercharger out of a 90's Pontiac Bonnieville or a 90's Thunderbird SC. I am sure that this could work on the 200 six. Both of these will have the same problems, brackets, etc. Could this be done easily? Is it likely that the cost could be lower? I would love to hear what everyone thinks about this. I have a wreckers down the road from me. I think I could get a supercharger from a Thunder bird for a fair price. What kind of problems could one have with this. oh yeah, went to a car show at the local BIG BOY and there were some nice cars there but nothing that will catch eyes like many of the great cars mentioned on this site. AS FOR THE SUPER CHARGER IDEA. I THINK IT WILL WORK!!!!!!!!!!

Adapting a M90 Eaton is not all that bad. Strong brackets, and switching to serpentine belt is the biggest hurdle. I have adapted 2 M90's to my TPI in my Malibu.. Drive up to Kettering some Friday night to Sears on Dorothy Ln and Woodman. Look for a black 80 Malibu.. It will be the one making all the noise.. <G> BW

First off let me say I'm not a big Chevy fan, but damn that's nice
I considered a M90 myself but I don't think it'll put out enough boost for a 300 even if I overdrive the piss out of it. It should work fine on a 200, you'll blow my doors off easy. But then I'm stock and that's not saying much.LOL Good luck.

where did you get it? I am sure I can do the bracket and the belt. I just need to find one to start with. I found one from a Thunderbird but I am not sure it will do the job or not.

I picked both blowers up from the SCCOA website http://www.sccoa.com/ for $250 each shipped. Both are off 89-93 with the oval inlet. Later 94-95 have a upgraded rectangular inlet.

SC's delevop 8-10 lbs of boost on a stock pulley, and 12-14 with a smaller pulley. A buddy has a single modified M90 on a EFI 5.0L pushing 10 LB and near 10 sec 1/4's.. in a mid 80's LTD II (fox).

I delevop 12-14lbs on stock pulleys.

Nice thing about the M90's is that they can be mounted in any plane.. since the oiling is sealed.

cheers, bob

that is sickening man...
pure evilness, i like it....
picked up a chevy mag the other day, had twin 6-71 blowers, polished up all nice, made me fall out of my chair

Whats most amusing is it passed Ohio emissions.. by better than 90%.

HC's were 17.5
CO was .03%

Limits are

HC's 157
CO 1.96%

The only question that was asked was what gear I had in the 9 inch by the manager...

Was funny watching the 18 year old kid testing it.. scared to even shift the 4 speed..

i think we have all over-looked a very important question, one that we are all asking...
what are the numbers that thing puts out?

.650 R/T
2.4 60'
9.44 1/8th @ 78 mph
14.44 1/4 @ 98 mph

two runs sofar, this is without any tuning to the chip and no traction. The posi clutches were shot, and on street tires. It spun the RR the length of the track according to some freinds.. the tire smoke inside and rubber on the 1/4 help back up their observations..

Posi has been rebuilt, trying to borrow some ET streets 26/10.5.15's off my nephew's Malibu and heading back next week hopefully. Hoping to crack a 12... with tuning.

I think on of these on a 200 with a few other goodies will do a fine job of eating rice. Tie that in with a nice 5 sp or auto kit and you will have a little rocket motor under the hood. I knew it could be done.

Saturn, do you have any info you could share with us on how you did it? Pictures, diagrams, pully size, etc that you could post for us? If so that would be great!

I can weld and drill a good piece of strong metal. The belts will be a little bit of a challenge. It will be a while before I get to my motor but when i do i will be letting everyone know as I get it done. This will work and the results will be good. :P I hope that more people try this.

Crank pulley is 7.5" the blowers are stock 2.8" pulleys. Basically I built L brackets for the front to mount the front of the blower mount plate and braced both rear sides, one to the headers, the other to the intake. The blower mounting holes are slotted for adjustment. A I6 would work best with the blower on the driver's side, and leaving the stock v belts in place, adding a ribbed crank pulley and fab up a tensioner for the blower.

I'll get some pics posted later.. cheers, BW

I just saw an Eaton 112 that goes on a C5 Vette. It is mounted backwards and uses a shaft running along the side of the blower to transfer the power.

They did it that way because of clearance issues but it did give me some ideas.
It puts the air intake at the front of the motor.
It would also make mounting twins a little easier with only a slight stagger.

Hey Damaged goods The M90 is designed for engines up to 350 cubic inches. Lack of boost won't be a problem.

When I get to my engine build up I'm going with dual M90's on a 300. They are cheap, reliable and just a blast to drive a car with a positive displacement blower, instant torque!

Really?? :hmmm: I may have to look into that! Do you think a Holley Projection kit can handle the boost?

John,

I figured you would set up the Holley Projection as a drawthrough. Since the Holley is fairly adjustable (what I'm told) then it would work well.
Fabbing your own carb/throttle mount only adds only adds to the coolness.

Like Evan says, "It's not what you buy but what you build" :D

Your right but he has a lot of money wrapped up in it, so he had might as well use it.
It will do alright.

anyone out there know what to look for to make sure that a used charger off a tbird is in good shape?

Check the rotors for nicks and scratches, the pulley should turn easily, no grinding or hard spots.
