I have a complete mint condition '55 power steering setup (less pump brackets) because it originally came off a Y-block. I figured I could fabricate my own brackets by first installing the 6-cyl second pulley (got it off a '59 223) on the crankshaft damper and hold the pump belt on the v-belt to see how the pump was positioned, but I never got that far.
When you install the second pulley and longer crank damper center bolt, the fan blade hits the center bolt (barely, but it hits). So I remedied that by installing a little aftermarket universal 1/2" fan spacer. When i did that, the fan blade hits the radiator (barely, but it hits). Is it possible that they had a crank center bolt with a very shallow bolt head and no fan spacer? Does anyone know if any '55 223s were originally equipped with PS ?
