Anybody have the Summit duals w/ turbos?

Hey all, I've got Pacemaker header on order, and am looking at options for an exhaust system. Summit has a dual system with their own "turbo" mufflers for like $130, with all the hardware. Should be bolt on, except I'll have to route the driver side pipe over to the header outlet.

Has anybody tried this package? I'd love to hear some feedback, and a sound clip would be great. I'm a little bit nervous about how inexpensive the package is. Also, will a "backward" reducer hurt performance? The header collectors are 2", and the Summit pipes are 2 1/4".

We haven't finished installing it yet, but we have one of those kits. The bends are not the highest quality mandrel bends, but they're acceptable.

We figure that by turning the header pipes so that all the bends point toward the header outlets, we can get a fairly close fit. After that, we will simply use fire and hammers to make it fit......

Jack is the set you're using the 2.25" set? Do you think you will lose much low end torque with this set-up? I was considering them because you can get and x-pipe from Summit fairly cheap also, however I was told that I would lose low end with anything bigger than 2" for a dual set-up.

The crossflow makes so much torque, we can get wheel spin in the first three gears. Basically, if we lose a few lb/ft, we don't care.

But I don't think that will be the case. The 2.25" system should work fine and the biggest difference will probably be the tone of the system. Bigger pipes = lower tone. Think french horn vs. bugle.

Even on a 200, I think it would be a good, workable system. Optimized? Of course not. But you can't beat the price. Soneday, someone will have to do a single vs. dual vs. big pipe vs. little pipe dyno comparison.

MustangSix--
Now that you've seen the Summit package, if you were doing it again would you get another one or just fab up a system behind the headers? I mean, is it a good alternative to a custom job?

Also, still looking for somebody who can tell me how those turbos sound.

I'd would definitely buy it again. The pipes fit well over the axle and the generic turbo muffs look pretty good. We'll see how it sounds in a day or so when we finish it up.

Hey MustangSix
Did you get those turbos hooked up yet? How's the sound?

yes they did I talked to Brian (owner of the car) and I reminded him to get a video of it so you can hear it. I believe he said it sounded like a hi-po 6 cylinder with a jet engine thrown in? something to that effect... it should be done sometime...

We got them installed yesterday and tinkered with them some more today. The Summit kit is pretty easy to use and only needed some minor tweaking to get the pipes to fit. We still have to install tips and hangers in the rear, but for the price, we're happy.

We added an H-pipe between the intermediate pipes and the result is something that sounds a lot like my old XK150. I like it. The dual turbo muffs are quiet at idle but bark pretty good when revving.

We'll get some clips on the road soon, but here's one that Brian shot while just revving it up in the driveway. Note how quickly this thing build revs when you blip the throttle.

Sounds good! At that price, and with the acceptable fit and quality, I think I'm going to take the plunge. Looking forward to hearing some road clips too, when you get them, and maybe one from back near the exhaust.
