Getting an alloy crosflow shipped to the states to put in my Econoline van. Carbureted early mid 80's. I intend to strip down the engine and rebuild it before installing in the van. I am looking for a source to purchase a manual that will have the assembly specs in it. Torque specs, bearing clearance, carb tuning, spark timing, etc. Anyone no where I can purchase this type of manual?
Dave

gidday ,do a search on HAYNES MANUALS or GREGORYS MANUALS

looks like HAYNES are in NEWBURY PARK ,CALIFORNIA.
Get a manual for a XE FALCON ,that should cover all areas of your engine.
hope this helps

cheers dave 67xr6

The manual I am looking for is titled Haynes Ford Falcon & Fairlane '79 thru '87, catalog #36730. The problem I ran into is that Haynes only lists the manual in their Non US markets. It is listed in England, France, and Australia, but not in the US listing of available manuals. I have sent off an e-mail to Haynes in Calif. Hopefully my e-mail to Haynes will direct me as to how I can purchase one from a US source.
Thanks to all for your help thus far,
Dave

p.s. The shipping container that the engine is in is on the dock in Portland, Oregon awaiting customs clearance.

If you want to send me your "snail mail" address I'll photo copy the relevant part of my book and send it to you.Regards Bill Colquhoun

Bill,
Give me a couple of days to see what the response is from the Haynes Company. If it's not available state side I will contact you to have you send me the copies you have offered.
Which manual do you prefer to use Haynes or Gregory's?
Dave

:oops:Dave,I just counted up the number of pages that need to be copied and they number 30.If you find that you need the photocopies,I will probably have to suggest you send some $ to cover the copying costs and postage.Copying will cost about $6 au and I don't know what the postage would be regards Bill.

I reckon the Gregorys is likely the Haynes. Actual motor torque specs are on one or two pages, clearances are basic common sense. Rocker gear is to Cleveland practice; you'd need spring pressures but they might come with the cam of your choosing. FWIW, most rebuild Gasket sets (like the excellent ACL ones) come with the specs on the instructions.

:D And when you're stuck, the Forum is here to help!

To Econoline-64,Dave I have always used the GregorysNo226 as a resource for our ZL Fairlane or the XBFalcon-ZG fairlane Factory Manual that I have sinc my XB Fairmont days. It's interesting that the sump I just used on the 4.1 Alloyhead crossflow that I am putting in my 71 XJ6 came off a 200 cub in Log head out of an aussie cortina six.I have all three types in my 250 "collection " now 1. 250 Log Head,2.Cast iron Head X flow
and XD Alloyhead II . The motor in my jag is out of an XE.Bye for now regards Bill

Dave ,I was in town today and dropped by Supa Cheap Auto to obtain a replacement for my burn't out drill under warranty and I noticed that there are Gregorys mnuals the type you need for $39.99aus if thats any help regards Bill.

To all,
The Haynes Company responded and stated I would have to purchase the manual from Aus. or GB sources. The Gregory's manual Bill mentioned is US $25.80. The Haynes manual from England is US $24.35. Since both manuals are almost equal in price, and shipping will most likely be very close in price also, which manual would your panel of experts recommend for someone that is not familiar with this particular engine. Remember, the only section of the manual I will be using is the engine maintenance sections. The engine is going into a US built 1964 Ford Econoline van. Hi econoline-64,I was just browsing Australian E-Bay and the manual you are looking for is on there current bid $15au .Regards Bill

Bill,
I will check out the manual on E-bay Aus. I was going to order one Monday 19, May 2003. Thanks for the tip.
Dave
Went to the e-bay Aus site and found lots of Falcon Fairlane manuals. Unfortunately I do not know which specific model Falcon Fairlane the motor is out of . I was told it would be an early 80's alloy head carby. Can anyone tell me what model Falcon Fairlane would of had this engine?
Dave again

Falcon/Fairlane 6 cylinder.
Model XD/ZJ = Alloy Head "I" (single barrel carb)
Model XE/ZK = Alloy Head "II" (Weber carb)
Model XF/ZL = Alloy Head "II" or EFI

In a nutshell, between 1985 and 87 are your optimum years.

For the last two models, chamber shapes varied; it's a bit pot-luck what you end up with. Got a bell-housing?

Adam.

Adam,
I ordered a complete engine plus a manual and an automatic bell housing. I am hoping to fit up either an O/D 4spd or an AOD auto gearbox.
Thanx for the model info.
Dave

The Ebay aus item no is 28304985,covers 1984 to 1987
