I finally got a chance to talk to Tom at Stovebolt last night, what a nice guy.... bought one of these 5200 carbs to try.

Anyway, I was wondering what air cleaner you guys running 5200's are using, Tom said it is not the standard Holley 2v flange and it takes a special base cleaner...

He sells one they make for 30.00 and I bought one, but I was curious if anyone has played with getting a 13" circular cleaner or other off the shelf cleaner to work?

You can put anything you want on top, as long and you use the adapter! The Holley 5200 is not round or oval it's kinda like a cat eye! I used two or three different air cleaners using his adapter, just cut the bottom out and rivet the adapter and seal, and your good to go!

The Chevette uses this carb so the aircleaner housing from it will work and beleive it or not K&N makes a filter for it!

Wait till you get the carb and confirm the style opening that yours is! I have seen many Holley 5200 carbs on many different models in the bone yards and have seen many different air cleaners that won't fit the ones Tom sells. Besides I'm sure enen if it fit you would not put a chevy air cleaner on your ford! :?

According to Tom, the one they make is a 6" cleaner adapted from a Harley? I will see soon enough, it should be here in the next week or so...

Jimbo65,
I ment the adapter that goes into the base of the air cleaner you want to mount on the Holley! He sells the adapter for $5.00 almost any air cleaner will fit using this adapter he sells!

Here's what the PEP Boys classic air cleaner $12.95 looks like on the Aussie 2V and Holley 5200.

Be careful about clearance. Not "any" air cleaner will fit.

I spent a bunch of $$ looking for an off the shelf solution, and there wasn't one.

What I did is get a Ford Motorsport drop-base air cleaner, and chop off the bottom. That was the only solution I could find that fit.

Check out my webpage for some pics

Good luck!

Hi Jimbo,

I did it the same way Corelian Corvette and Mustangaroo did it. As a mater of fact I used the same air cleaner Mustangaroo used. Made my own adapter. Tom didn't sell one when I did this conversion. As stated, you cut the ring out of the bottom plate of the standard holley 2100, 2300 air cleaner and attach the adapter, which fits the top of your 5200.

Looking forward to seeing your car when done.

Steve
