H/W 5200 w/ PCV is rich, w/o is OK; Holley 2300 w/ PCV is OK

"Here's a thought... Why is there an secondary idle jet on a progressive carb???"

Some Holley 4v's come with secondary (4 corner) idle circuits and are probably used in engines with big cams that cannot get enough idle mixture through just the primary circuit.

Ok, so I tried a 55 idle jet and taping up the hole. I was able to readjust my idle mix and speed screws down but it was running like.... well you know. I only did a mile or so at 30 mph, but it was bogging while shifting and the AFR was jumping around. Not sure if the tape was leaking or what. I put the 70 back in, removed the tape and readjusted the screws, runs good again.
I might order a 75 & 80 idle jet and try later this week. It was 95 -100* in LA today, not your ideal under-the-hood weather.

If nothing else, just to humor me, try switching the main jets. I thought perhaps asking jamyers to try that, since he also has the wideband meter.

Can do, probably won't be till Fri when I'm off work and it's suppose to cool off considerably.

I'd be glad to, but I'm up to my ears in getting camp ready for the summer, and I've pulled my wideband out of the Ranchero. Sorry, but it'll prolly be August before I get time to do anything more than required maintenance. :( On the other hand, I'm loving the new job and digs! :D

Bigredrasa,
are you thinking just the mains, 315/ 223(150/130) or the mains and air corr jets 195/165 as a set???

If I get a chance I'll try swapping them one at a time and recording the differences

Just the mains, then the air correctors. Heck, if you have the time, try small main/corrector primary, and small main large corrector primary AFR readings. Plenty of room on the revised spreadsheet.

James, as they say down under, "Good on you, mate!"

Damn, now I have homework!!!!

I'm off on Fri, it's suppose to be nice and cool and I'm at a stopping point on my Scarebird conversion. I'll try to log it all down and do some good test runs. I'm at the point where I can swap out the jets in a couple minutes.
I redid your spread sheet with blanks so I have a fresh sheet to work from.

Ok now I feel really st*pid!!! I misinformed earlier, I did have the smaller jet 223 in as Primary and the 315 as the Sec. Just for the heck of it I swapped them and it ran real rich. 12-13 @ idle and 30 mph and alot of fuel coming out of the mains. I put them back and didn't bother doing any other changes.

I think I really need to start out w/ a bigger idle jet and go from there. I'll stop buy the Weber shop and have them order me up a 75, 80 and maybe and 85. This way I can get my idle speed and mix screws down. Hopefully they will trade me my 55 I just bought.

From what I remember....I think I did.

I just got back from a three week vacation to Vietnam and Cambodia, so I haven't messed with the Ranchero in over a month+.

Last I remember, I bought a larger Pri Idle jet and had it pretty close to being dialed in. 13-14 AFR driving, 14+ at idle, and only a couple turns on the screws. The last weeks or so before I left I was also trying to get some rims to fit my Scarebird disc.

Hopefully this weekend I can pull it out of the garage and run it. I'll go over my notes and split the carb and let you know what jets I ended up with.
