Just out of curiousity, what did the aussie head come stock on? I haven't really been able to find out much info about them, just a few pictures and that they're rare... Also how much does the head and intake usually go for? Thanks.

Never buy a head without the intake. First up, the intake is less common, and secondly you may not come out ahead on the total price.

I think prices for a head and manifold in the US are a bit regional, being cheaper on the West Coast. Range maybe from $550 to $1400, depending very much also on what you're getting extra.

They were mainly fitted to the 1971-75 Falcons and Fairmonts. They have also been found in a few Fairlanes from early in that era. I believe that some were installed into Cortinas, too - but many dispute this point.

There are three main groups of heads, differentiated by casting numbers. The first ones are serialised ARD1DA... on the intake, then the next series were 72DA... and finally 74DA... prefixes. No real differences internally. All had a heat coil for auto choke, that looped around inside the centre exhaust port. All ran a Stromberg WW series carb.

Don't lose sight of the head being only one part of a package. While the 2V motors had a bone stock bottom end, it was a 250 (not a 200), fuel economy was not a concern then, and the engines were brand new.

Watch out for the one head cracked in the US by trying to force-fit a port divider. It sometimes comes up cheap, but needs furnace brazing to fix. It's still the only cracked 2V head I've heard of, and moreover wasn't broken by an Aussie!

Cheers, Adam.

what are you trying to say Adam,..that an Aussie cant break anything...?
:)

What was I trying to say?

More that when you try to buddy up for someone and get a freebie, and in the process possibly manage to peeve them right off, they may give less than a flying duck about the results...

And that the 2V head is pretty tough! deletion of the log seems to add a little durability to the casting.

I have no idea what's going on ... but thanks for all the head info addo, that's all I wanted to know. I doubt I'd be able to find one or afford it if I did, but now I know :). Are they hard to find even there where they were made, addo?

one comes up 4sale about once a month on ebay here in Oz and sells for anywhere between $300 -$700 AUD depending on what it comes with although a fully recon 2V went for over $1400 AUD the other day...

they were made and installed on Falcons 1971 -1973 and in Cortina 1972-1973,

they were a great head in there day with enormous potential , i would have loved to have seen this head developed over a few years.

I fully believe that if the "Supercar Scare of 73 " never happened Ford Australia were going to put a cammed up tripple weber 2V 250 into the lightweight Cortina to take on the six pack Charger And holden torana which would of been an absolutely mouth watering prospect .........

Such a pity a big mouth journalist came out and told the public and goverment of the day (1973) that local Ford and Holden production cars would soon be doing 170mph of the production line .....thus putting and end to the Australian Supercar era.

I have two cracked heads, both arrived as such. One is on the yellow SEMA display motor. The other was used for flow test and heavy modifications to the ports for the testing.
