Autolite 1100 Pony Carb (which distributor matches)

I get terrible mileage. 10 to 12. I have a 1940 Holley on the car which it came with but had a Pony Autolite 1100 on it prior for a couple years. I didn't get good mileage with it either. Its a 200 cid but I can tell you that it's a rebuilt engine not the original. The distributor is D30F-12127BA. Not sure who makes it but it was in the car when i bought it. I have read that if you don't have the correct distributor with carburetor, mpg can get pretty bad. I have been trying to solve this problem for 3 years. I did a compression test and all cylinders are at 155. I am using Petronix instead of stock points. Plugs replaced. It has an automatic transmission and after market air (not used).

The engine sounds great except for slight tapping. Do I replace the distributor to solve this issue?

It seems as if the distributor is for 1973 302-2V Manual trans and Auto trans. I think this might be a problem. Right?

(You want a D30F-12127-GA or service repacement D30Z-12127-G 1973 351C 4V A/T)

It can't be a v8 distrib. They just won't fit. Count the lobes under the rotor a v8 has 8 and a six engine has 6. I think you do have a problem if your getting such low MPG however with a bad carb or distributor or both it would not run good. What did the plugs look like? A Holley 1940 or autolite pony without spark valve and a 73 point distrib would be a workable combo of parts.

Howdy Back:

Here are some check list things to start with.
*Verify which carb type you have- with a Spark Control Valve (SCV) or non-SCV. A compatible combination of carb and distributor advance system can have an effect on mileage.
*Verify timing by first verifying that the timing mark on the distributor is correct at zero at top dead center on #1. The timing mark can slip over time.
*check and verify that you have no gas or vacuum leaks anywhere in the systems. Gas leaks are very hard to find because gas evaporates very quickly.

AKT- According to the Pony Carb Guide the Holley 1940 will be about 2 mpg worse on the road than a correct Autolite 1100.

I'm hoping this is helpful to you. Keep us informed on your progress.

I had purchased the Autolite 1100 200 cfm carb from Classic Inlines that are now being re-built by one of the Pony Carb techs. I bought a 1965 Mustang with the 200 cid for my wife back in December of 2011. We had such a horrible time driving it as it always stumbled, hesitated and stalled. For many months I tried to find a replacement carb without having to modify the manifold. I also found out by numerous sites that the Pony Carb was out of business so I tried several other carb manufacturer's and had no luck. I found Classic Inlines off the internet when searchng for Autolite 1100 carbs. I had talked with Micahel Winterboer at Classic Inlines and he had suggested for me to use the Dura Spark II ingnition system as the 65 & 66 Mustangs had bad carb issues and ingition systems. I purchased the ignition system last summer and it improved the performance of the car and it kept the car from shutting off while driving. Unfortunately the Autolite 1100 carb was on its last leg and finally the accelerator pumps stopped pumping gas into the barrel causing it to starve for gas and making it hard to start without shooting carb start spray into the barrel to start the car. I went back ontol Classic Inlines page to see what other carbs were available as I had exhausted all other 1 brl options as I did not want to modify the manifold to adapt the two brl carb. I had noticed that Classic Inlines stated they now offer the 1100 carbs that are being re-built by one of the Pony Carb techs. I purchased one without hesitation. I had received the first one out of four they had stock and it works perfectly. I did not have to do any adjusting or mododifications. This carb and ignition system makes the car run better than new. I currently get 21 miles MPG. I highly reccomend to call Michael at Classic Inlines for your needs. The service, price, delivery etc. is perfect. I cannot believe on how nice and enjoyable it is now to drive the Mustang without any issues.
