Hello Everyone, I run a Autolite 1100 on my 200, already change the distributor to a MAXX88630K, but i want to upgrade the Carburator, what do you guys recomend? is not like the car is for Drag racing or anything but yes i would like a little Better performance.

thanks

If your Autolite 1100 is an "LOM" with a spark valve I hope that you connected your vacuum advance to manifold vacuum.

some look a lill different than this (This an "outtie" the other an "innie") as no flange on outside looking like a 6 sided bolt but the lill silver disc inside the round hole/body. C here:
not just pic 1/2 way dwn page but READ all the material as well (SCV/LOM...carb dissy feedback system).

Thank you, But I installed a HEI distributor, how does this would work the ?

Connect the vacuum adavnce to manifold vacuum.
I have an HEI on my 200 six.
I have the vacuum advance connected to manifold vacuum.
Plug the vacuum advance port on the Autolite 1100 so you don't have a vacuum leak

Back to the original topic here - a slightly bigger bore 1101 carburetor can be made to fit. There are adapters available, or you can make your own if you're crafty. The fuel line, throttle linkage, vacuum and PCV lines, etc. all fit fine, but you'll probably need a different air cleaner. A lot easier change to make than adapting a two-barrel carb.

In the mean time don't destroy your engine with LOM venturi vacuum advancing the HEI vacuum unit.
Disconnect the vacuum line and plug it if there is a spark valve on your Autolite 1100.

Vintage Inlines has an carb adapter to install a later larger 1 barrel carb.
1V Carb Adapter (Large 1V to Small Log) SKU: FSP-200-1VA-LS $75.00
The original air cleaner where it mounts to the carb inlet can be enlarged if need be.

Curious, how/why would improper set up destroy your engine?

I read that this adapter is for the CARTER 1V carburetor that came on larger Ford engines. I have a 170. Would that CARTER 1V carburetor work with the 170? I’d also prefer not moving to a 2V Weber if possible.

Yes, it’s been quite some time since @78_200_C4 has been here. I think. His concern was that the spark control valve carburetor provides the wrong vacuum signal for a conventional non-load-o-matic type distributor and that it may cause detonation. A better strategy would be to block off the vacuum port on the carb and take the vacuum advance line from the HEI distributor to the vacuum fitting on the log manifold.

In your case, if you need a carburetor for a stock engine and if it has a spark control valve, “load-o-matic” distributor, you’ll need to make sure that whatever carburetor you have, has a spark control valve.

Carter YF and YFA carbs were made with and without the spark control valve (SCV). You’ll need to establish whether or not your engine is equipped with a load-o-matic distributor and then choose the appropriate carb. They made all sizes of those carbs so select the correct CFM as well

Your stock 170 Autolite 1100 was 156 cfm and I believe it would have been the SCV carb and LOM distributor which are used together only. If you go to a non SCV carb you have to change out the LOM distributor. Many people change them both out for better running vehicle.

Holley was a common replacement carb.

The Carter YF for the 170 was 150 cfm and for the 200 it was 187 cfm. Not sure how to identify them may have to research online or maybe a resource like Mikes Carbs.

You will find mostly carbs for passenger cars which used throttle linkage attached to the firewall while the Bronco uses a throttle cable. You just have to modify it.

Look above in the Tech Archive for good info on Ford six topics.

I read in my Falcon Performance Hand book that 1967-1978 Carter YF was a throttle cable carb. All this stuff is old so you have to verify before you buy.

Also, in line with @bmbm40’s advice above about upgrading the distributor and carburetor to a non-load-o-matic distributor and non-SCV carb, what year is your 170? Later models around 1965 and up have the 5/16” shaft that can be upgraded to a better distributor like a Duraspark II or aftermarket HEI. Earlier models around 1964 and earlier had 1/4” distributor shafts and you’re pretty well stuck with what you’ve got.

yes, pre/post ’68 for that
pre/post ’64 for the dizzy hole (I believe) @ its bottom in the block.
2 BIG pieces for those to hop up (ignit/carb), not so much for the OEM guys...

Wishin the “Performance Handbook" were still avail... since not:
