Hi everybody. Can anybody tell me what the difference is between a 1100 autolite for an auto transmission versus a standard shift?? I am in need of a 1100 and have been told that they are different for auto versus manual but I cant figure out why. TIA

The automatic transmission version has what looks like a 2nd accelerator pump on the other side of the float bowl. It is actually a decelerator pump, not sure if it is really needed. I dont understand why it would be differnt between a auto and manual, I would think it would depend on how you drove a manual. I think you would be fine with the auto version on a manual and maybe you would have a slight misfire when you took your foot off with a auto trans and the manual carb.

i never noticed a problem without the extra pump, exept when at a stop if i revv up and let of the gas suddenly while in gear it stumbles... but otherwise is great

You can probably get by using a standard trans carb on the automatic trans car. It's just that in some situations coming off the throttle with the car in gear there is still a little drag on the engine from an automatic transmission/converter that could cause the engine to sputter or die as you come to a stop at idle. You can compensate with a slightly higher idle, richer mixture, or even put a throttle level dashpot on. This is what Ford did in some situations where they used a non-dashpot carb with an auto trans, they mounted a small anti-stall dash pot on the throttle linkage itself on the carb.

So what would happen when you have a manual and you just take your foot off the gas, still in gear and no clutch? Is the differnce that the manual in gear will turn the engine regardless of fuel and such and the auto is just a slight drag? And with clutch in there is no load and the flywheel keeps things turning long enough to get over the temporary lean condition?
