automatic choke heat tube question from a newbie

Hi,

After letting my 66 sit for four years without running the motor, I am jumping in with both feet to bring her back to life. In line with that, I pulled the stock 1v carb to rebuild ( the throttle plate is covered with black gook and stuck but good) and in the process the choke heat tube broke off at the manifold. Since I am a virgin when it comes to this stuff, how do I find a replacement heat tube. Also, it appears my exhaust manifold is cracked. My dream plan is to put in fspp headers down the line, so I don't want to drop much money getting a stock manifold to replace the cracked one. Can I get this at a salvage yard off of other Fords, or is this specific to the 200 ci Mustang? Thanks in advance, and I hope my questions don't sound to newbie.
 
Well, if you have a knack for tubing. Just get the same fitting that goes to your carb. Maybe a female nut with a ferrule and the correct size tubing. Bend and cut to fit. Then install your fitting and ferrule on tubing. Screw onto carb male fitting and tighten. After hand tight, use a wrench and tighten 3/4 of a turn.
You maybe able to find what you need on Ebay. As far as your manifold goes. I know you can score a good deal on Ebay.

stainless steel or just plain steel fuel line of the same diameter work just fine. You will have to drill out what is left of the old tubing from the exhaust manifold, I recommend removing it entirely to prevent metal shaving from finding their way into the engine (trust me it happens!) Like ZZ Top said, you will need to procur a new b-nut to attach to the choke. If you need help with bending and flairing the tubing, I suggest going to an A/C maintenance company or your local high school auto shop class. Good luck!
 
The part is still available from various sources. NDP has them with the little asbestos sweater too.
 
At this stage, the idea of metal fabrication gives me the willies, so I'm going to go with buying the part, thanks for the tip that it can still be bought. On the headers, do the fspp headers fit the stock manifold, so I could just go ahead and buy those now instead of down the line? thanks again.
 
You don't need to get steel tubing. Just go to Napa or somewhere and get some thick wall copper tubing, 1/4" dia I think. The copper tubing is easy to bend with your hands so it doesn't need a tubing bender.

Re-use the insulation sleeve off your old heat riser tube.

You will need a new ferrule and nut. Get those where you get the tubing and make sure they match the ones on the old tube.
